Methodology

A slab of 1 metre by 1 metre and a dome-like structure of the same size will be casted in
concrete. Wood batten and board will be mainly used for the formworks. A piece of
geotextile stapled on a wood batten frame will be used as fabric formwork for the dome-like
structure. The amount of concrete requires is .25 m of grade 30 MPa. The method of curing
is water and damp cloth.

Once the concrete is set and cured after more than 28 days to obtain its full strength, a
compressive test will be performed to demonstrate the resistance of both concrete
elements. We will be able to determine which form is more resistant and more economic.
Due to a lack of equipment, all tests will be performed in a private laboratory.

Framing and Formwork:

Using the 8m of 25 x 50 mm wood batten, two frames of 1m x 1m was created. Precaution was
taken to obtain a squared frame by using the speed square and by checking the diagonal distances.

Flat Slab

One of the frames was screwed onto the 1.2m x 1.2m wooden board for the casting of the flat slab.

Dome Slab

Geo textile was placed loosely and stapled on the frame.
