Technology for Health Sciences is a course designed to integrate various essential
computer skills in the health sciences for each level grade student. The goal is to use
computers as a tool and delivery system to enhance learning and to empower students to
Course Description embrace content through technological means. Students will learn to use open source
software and general design principles to create effective, content driven materials to
represent ones understanding. Students ARE REQUIRED to use a Windows based
computer system to complete projects using word-processing, presentations,
spreadsheets, and interactive classroom technologies.
There is no specific text for this class. All required reading materials will be supplied by the
teacher in class and on the Weebly class website (as listed above). All work will be done
on Internet-based software that can be retrieved from any computer with Internet access.
As a back-up, please also have the following for class as well:
Course Materials USB / Flashdrive (8 GB or smaller is more than enough)
Google Drive Account (one is provided through NHPS)
Three ring binder or Notebook
Black or Blue Pen
Students are to follow all of the rules outlined in the student handbook.
Merits/Demerits: When applicable, notice will be given for what is received based on the
Merit/Demerit policy protocols provided at the beginning of the school year. See the
Merit/Demerit Manager for further questions.
Tardiness: Follow the school policy and bring a pass to class (no verbal passes will be
accepted).
Homework: C ANNOT be made up if late homework is due the day it is expected and
assigned unless otherwise noted by the teacher. If you are absent on the due date, it must
Behavior Policy be returned the next class period for credit. Also refer to the school policy as well.
Projects: ONLY due on the assigned day whether or not you are in school. If you are
absent, please e-mail me your completed project or share it with me on Google Drive in
your designated folder. If it is an oral presentation and your partners(s) present without you
and you have not made previous arrangements with me, your grade for presentation will be
a zero. The written portion of the project will be graded according to the rubric provided.
To ensure the protection of the equipment and the safety of all students, please comply with
the following rules and procedures:

ADDITION TO RETRIEVING AND TURNING IN ANY CELL PHONES OR ELECTRONIC DEVICES TO THE FLOOR DEAN.
The instruction of this course is driven by the belief that the best learning happens through
the authentic application of skills and concepts. It will rely heavily on hands-on experience
