RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

Question

How did Venice, from the 15th to the 17th century, made itself one of the richest republics in
history while fighting many wars (Venetian-Ottoman Wars) against their principal trading
partner (Ottoman Empire)?

Independent Variable: Fighting many wars against their principal trading partner.

Dependent Variable: Venice made itself one of the richest republics in history. (Affected)

General objective

To illustrate the way in which Venice managed to fight the Ottoman Empire without
affecting, in a negative way, their economic relations with the Ottomans in the 15th, 16th
and 17th centuries.

Specific objectives
To recognize the economic and trade policies used by both the Venice Republic and the
Ottoman Empire during the hostilities between both powers in the 15th, 16th and 17th
centuries.

To identify and evaluate different trade options Venice had available during its hostilities
with the Ottoman Empire that could have maintained economic stability in the Venice
Republic during the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries.
