This course will move at an accelerated rate; therefore, it is imperative that students remain focused, motivated and determined throughout the course of the year in order to experience success. We will be studying many types of literature this year, including novels, short stories, plays, and poetry. We will also incorporate two genre studies into our classroom, where we will be working to become effective readers of mystery and contemporary literature Some titles that we will be reading include To Killa Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, and The Witness for the Prosecution and Other Short Stories by Agatha Christie. We will also be working extensively on developing and refining writing and vocabulary skills. We will use homework assignments for classroom activities and discussions. Therefore, smaller assignments will not be accepted after the due date, with few exceptions.
