My name is Kartika. I celebrate Deepavali. Deepavali is also known as Festival of Lights. My


mother usually lights oil lamp outside the house. Our traditional costumes are saree for the women and
jippa for the men. We go to the temple to pray and to give thanks. When my friends visit me during the
celebration, I serve capati and vadai.

My name is Jessica and I am an Iban. I lives in a longhouse beside a river in Sarawak. Our
festival is Gawai Dayak. It is celebrated every year on 1st June to mark the end of harvest season. Our
traditional costumes are called sirat for the men and ngepan for the women. During the festival, we eat
our traditional food such as umai and drink tuak for the adults. There is also a beauty contest during
Gawai Festival. The winner is crowned as Kumang Gawai.
My name is Upin and I celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri. It is celebrated by Muslims after a month of
fasting. During the celebration, my family and I go to the mosque to pray. Our traditional costumes are
Baju Melayu for the men and Baju Kurung for the women. When my friends visit me during the
celebration, my mother serves lemang and rendang.

My name is Mei Mei. Every year, my family and I celebrate Chinese New Year. This celebration
usually lasts for 15 days. During this celebration, my father prepares Mandarin oranges to symbolize
wealth while my mother serves yee sang or also known as Prosperity Toss. Our traditional costumes
are samfoo for the men and cheongsam for the women.
