Summary
This instruction is to aid you in the installation of a replacement MC Toolkit.

MC Toolkit Replacement Kit (Part number 50020492)

Your replacement kit should contain the following items listed in table 1

Installing the MC Toolkit

To install the new MC Toolkit, follow the steps in Table 2. There are 2 parts to the Installation:

Installing the SD Memory Card (50036088-501) to the PDA

Installing the MC Toolkit software components from the CD ROM (51453286-501) to the PDA

Pre-requisites:
Active Sync/Mobile Device Center
If you are running Windows XP, download ActiveSync 4.1 or above from the Microsoft Web site and install it on
your PC
If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, download Windows Mobile Device Center version 6.1 or above
from the Microsoft Web site and install it on your PC.
OS Version:
You need Microsoft Windows Mobile Version 5.0 OS on the PDA. Verify this by selecting
Start/Setting/System/About on the PDA
The qualified PDA Model IDs are HP iPAQ hx2490b and hx2490c. Verify this by selecting
Start/Settings/System/HP Asset Viewer
SD Card: At least 1GB memory on the SD Card

Table 2 Installation Instructions

Step Action

Loading the SD Memory Card (50036088-501) to the PDA

1 If the Host PDA has any or all of the previously installed following programs, follow the steps
below to remove these programs from the PDA.

A. Honeywell MC Toolkit

B. Honeywell CFG_MCT

C. Honeywell FDC

D. Honeywell SDC

E. Honeywell ModemCodeDownload

F. Microsoft .NET CF 3.5

Steps:

1. Select Start/Settings/System/Memory/Remove Programs

2. Select the above programs one by one(If a program is not listed, that means it was
not installed on this PDA before)

3. Select Remove, select Yes on the Remove Program dialog

4. Soft Reset the PDA

2 Remove the old SD Card from the Host PDA

3 Insert Loaded SD Card into the Host PDA. Select Start\File Explorer\My Device and locate the
SD Card folder. If it does not show up within 15-20 seconds after loading the SD Card, Soft
Reset the PDA again.

Step Action

4 Before inserting the CD ROM into the drive, setup ActiveSync connection or Mobile Device
Center connection with the Desktop (For Help on this topic, refer the User manual 34ST25
20; Section Synchronization between PDA and PC)

5 If the desktop PC has any or all of the previously installed following programs, follow the steps
below to remove these programs from the PC.

A. MC Toolkit

B. ModemCodeDownload

C. Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 3.5

Steps: Windows XP
1. Select Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add Remove Programs
2. Select the above programs one by one (If a program is not listed,
that means it was not installed on this PC before)
3. Select Change/Remove
4. On the "Welcome Dialog" select "Remove", click on Next.
5. Click Yes on "Do you want to completely remove..." prompt.

Steps: Windows Vista / Windows 7

1. Select Start/Control Panel/UnInstall a Program
2. Select the above programs one by one (If a program is not listed, that means
it was not installed on this PC before)
3. Select UnInstall / Change
4. On the "Welcome Dialog" select "Remove", click on Next.
5. Click Yes on "Do you want to completely remove..." prompt.

6 Insert the CD ROM into the CD ROM Drive. MCToolkit.bat file should execute automatically. If
it does not start automatically, open the CD ROM root drive and double click MCToolkit.bat file

It will run 3 Installation setups

Note: Completely Install all the 3 steps

7 MC Toolkit Setup launches first. Go through the prompts on the Installation screens.

On the Please check your mobile device screen to see if additional steps are necessary
screen, select ok. Continue with the next steps.

8 Check the PDA screen for any prompts

9 PDA prompts Choose a location to Install Honeywell CFG_MCT.

Select SD Card as the installation location

Next PDA prompts Choose a location to Install Honeywell FDC.

Select SD Card as the installation location

Next PDA prompts Choose a location to Install Honeywell MC Toolkit.

Step Action

10 Wait until you see the message

Honeywell MC Toolkit.CAB was successfully installed on your device.

Select OK

11 Select Finish on the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen on the PC. Continue with the
next steps.

12 Wait until MC Toolkit Modem CodeDownload Setup launches Next. Go through the prompts
on the Installation screens.

On the Please check your mobile device screen to see if additional steps are necessary
screen, select ok. Continue with the next steps.

13 Check the PDA screen for any prompts

14 PDA prompts Choose a location to Install Honeywell ModemCodeDownload.

Select SD Card as the installation location

15 Wait until you see the message

Honeywell ModemCodeDownload.CAB was successfully installed on your device.

Select OK

16 Select Finish on the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen on the PC. Continue with the
next steps.

17 Wait until Microsoft .Net compact Framework 3.5 Setup launches Next. Go through the
prompts on the Installation screens. Select Complete option on the Setup Type screen.

On the Please check your mobile device screen to see if additional steps are necessary
screen, select ok. Continue with step the next steps.

18 Check the PDA screen for any prompts

19 PDA prompts Choose a location to Install .Net Compact Framework 3.5.

Select SD Card as the installation location

20 Wait until you see the message

You must restart the device to complete installation

Select OK

21 Select Finish on the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen on the PC.

This completes the Installation of MC Toolkit. The installation creates 3 icons at the Start Menu or Start/Programs menu of the
PDA:

FDC

MCToolkit

ModemCodeDownload

Before you can use the MC Toolkit, make sure the Modem firmware version is 2.0 (you need Modem firmware version 2.0 and
above to use with MC Toolkit Release 4.0 and above)

Checking the Modem Firmware version

Step Action

1 Double click the MCToolkitCodeDownload icon on the PDA. Code Download Homepage will
be displayed.

2 Select Modem Diagnostics under the Modem Menu. Modem Diagnostic screen will be
displayed

3 Check and verify that the Modem Firmware version field displays 2.0. If it is less than 2.0,
upgrade the modem firmware using the Instructions guide 34-ST-25-33 (Section: Upload /
Download Operations that is shipped with the MC Toolkit product. Make sure you complete
the Modem firmware upgrade before Connecting MC Toolkit to the devices

NOTE: There are 2 Optional batch files provided in the CD ROM should you need to install these
components separately for Maintenance purposes:
ModemCodeDownload.bat : Installs ModemCodeDownload only (Follow Steps 12 16 to install this
setup. The n Soft Reset the PDA)
DotNet3.5.bat : Installs .Net Compact Framework 3.5 only (Follow steps 17-21 to install this setup)
