IMAGE LOGS

Well is sampled multiple times horizontally and at a high rate vertically, to form a
dense matrix from which an image is created.
Computer generated image based on geophysical measurements of acoustic
reflectivity and electrical conductivity.
Represents formation response at borehole wall
TYPES OF IMAGING TOOL
Two main types
o Acoustic Image
o Electrical Image
Acoustic Image
o Borehole Tele-viewer
o Detailed acoustic response
o
SOME CHARACTERISTICS
Highly specialised unit; separate from drilling
For around 2000m; 12,000 test
Simpler tools very low speeds
Complex tools higher speeds,
ROUGH PROCEDURE
Hole cleaned
Stabilized
Drilling equipment extracted
Logging tool attached and lowered
Logs run while pulling up the tool
Cable acts as support and canal for data transmission
High speeds depending on formations
Log is run at end of drilling phase & before casing is put on
LOG PRESENTATION
Width 8.25 in with 3 tracks of 2.5 in
Track 1 & 2 separated by 0.75 in
Track 1 linear with 10 standard deviations of 0.25 in
Track 2 & 3 has 4-cycle logarithmic scale
Different scales; 1:1000, 1:500 etc.
Dashes which represents one minute
Calibration data may also be included.

LWD LOGS
3 main elements
o Downhole logging sensor
o Data transmission system
o Surface interface
Logging sensors : Right behind drill bit in specialised drill collars
Data transmitted in digital format by pulse telemetry
Formation is logged soon after drilling
Different tools including gamma ray, resistivity, density, neutron, sonic etc
