ABSTRACT
The objectives of this study were to identify relationship of demographic
factors and social factors with malaria incidence in areas divided by
administrative boundaries, and to develop a model of effect of demographic
and social factors on malaria incidence in areas divided by administrative
boundaries.
The design of this study was case control, conducted in 3 malaria
endemic villages Prigi and Tasik Madu (Watulimo subdistrict, Trenggalek
Regency) and Keboireng (Besuki Sudbistrict, Tulungagung Regency).
Population of cases was community in study areas those had symptoms of
malaria and positive result of laboratory examination in year 2005.
Population of control was community in study area those were not suffered
from malaria in the same period with ratio case : control 1:2.
Independen variables were age, gender, education level, occupation,
knowledge, attitude, practice and mobility. Data was collected by interview
using questionnaires.
Most of respondents were male, low education level, occupation as
farmers or fishers, and had history of contact with malaria patients. Mobility
of cases was higher than control. Most of respondent in control group were
immobile.
The result of this study revealed that there were 2 variables influenced
the occurance of malaria, mobility and history of contact with malaria
patient. Based on the result, it could be developed a model of effect of
demographic and social factors on malaria incidence in areas divided by
administrative boundaries with formula as followed: Prob (malaria) = 1/(1 +
e1,609-0,915Contact-1,113Mobility).
