BO’NESS PUBIC STORYLINE

Week One
We Find a Nest in our Classroom

When we came to school this

morning there was a nest in our
classroom.
“There’s a nest in there but we
don’t know why.”
“Miss McNab – there’s a nest in
there.”
“It’s a cool, white old nest.”
“It’s a nest for Jesus.”
We told Miss McNab about the
nest and she said she had no idea
where it came from.

She said the classroom was empty

when she left the night before.
We went in teams to have a closer
look at the nest.

Caitlin, Taylor and Chloe were the

first to notice the nest, so they
went to study it. They said it was
soft and that it looked
comfortable.
They brought one of the white
sticks from the nest to us so that
we could feel it.

We talked about who might have

built the nest. We all had different
ideas.
After studying the nest, we
decided to draw “who” or “what”
had built the nest.

We drew with the Verithik crayons

on white paper.
Some of us thought that Mrs Rose,
Mrs Lynch, Miss Barclay or Mr
Edgar had built the nest.

Joe and Jordan went to ask Mr

Edgar if he had built the nest. He
had no idea what they were talking
about!
We asked as many people as
possible in school if they had built
the nest.

Mrs Ferguson didn’t build the nest.

We began to realise that no-one in
school had built the nest. It was a
mystery!
When we finished our drawings, we
showed them to the rest of our
group.

We told them who we thought had

built the nest.
Then each group had to choose
their favourite picture of who had
built the nest.

We had to talk to each other and

work out ways to help us choose.
We put the 4 chosen pictures on
the board and gave them numbers.

Then we each wrote the number of

our favourite picture on a little
piece of paper.
We folded the paper to keep our
numbers secret and put them into a
little box. This is called voting.

Then we began to unfold the

papers and count how many votes
each picture got.
At first number one was winning.
Then number three had the most
votes!
But when all of the little ballot
papers where unfolded, the winner
was number 4.

We all cheered!
Number 4 was Nicole’s drawing.
She believed a fairy had built the
nest. She said the fairy came into
the classroom after Miss McNab
left. She thought the fairy got in
and out through a hole in the
ceiling.
After dinner time, we began to
make pictures of Nicole’s fairy
using lots of different things stuck
onto a piece of black paper.
Jamie showed the class how to
make tiny little eyes for our
fairies.
Olivia asked Miss Barclay for any
shiny materials. We thought these
would help us make our fairies
special.
Euan finished his fairy picture and
began to ask people what the fairy
should be called.
H e wrote the name on the board
and told the class all about it.

So now we know that Fairy Fiona

built the nest.
We only had a little time after this
so we chose two people to try out
the nest.
We all went up to watch them sit in
the nest.
Jamie said the nest was soft. He
curled up into a wee ball and got
really comfy in the nest.
Sandra sat beautifully in the nest.

She also looked really comfortable

and said it felt good to sit in.
We can’t wait to get our turn to be
in the nest.
