Gundar Basin is one of the
driest river basins in Tamil Nadu
spreading over 5660 sq.km. The
basin receives a rainfall of about
550-990 mm. There are 2276 tanks,
5500 ponds and 43 diversion weirs in
6 sub basins. About 85,888 ha of
land is irrigated by the tanks which
contribute to food security needs of
3000 hamlets in five districts. Water
