My story (Purely fiction)

Staring at the rotating fan on the ceiling, watching it spinning round and round
continuously while lying on my bed lifelessly reminds me how long a day can really be if a
person has no plans to do during holidays. I sigh aimlessly while listening to my bedside clock
beeping silently as every second passes by. As the boredom escalates from suffering to an
unbearable state, I leap from my bed, grab my bag and head off from my own humble home,
desperate for an objective to achieve without wasting another second.

Before I continue my so-called adventure to the mall, I take a peek into my wallet and
frown a little. It is like a wasteland inside with barely any life in it. Without further ado, I take a
detour and change my destination to the bank instead. Despite my current financial issue,
the relaxing rays from the warm sun actually soothes my concerns slightly. I always admire
how Mother Nature creates her majestic art by painting her canvas known as the sky and form
scenes so artistic that even Rembrandt bows down to its glorious creation. However, most
people are hustling their lives so much without taking a break and look at the simplistic beauty
around them. Then again, it is merely the perspective of an amateur such as myself.

Nothing can be as soothing as the chilling air of the air conditioner as it bursts through
the automatic glass gate like the Artic Wind from the North Pole. However, the chilling,
pleasant sensation is short-lived as I am crunching up the remaining balance of my bank
account depending on my withdrawal in front of the ATM. Unfortunately, Mathematics is not
exactly my forte, let alone counting them in my brain. To make matters worse, the background
chitter chatter is not helping my mental calculations. I witness bank accountants pacing to and
fro from their counters and consulting any forms of transactions from their customers.
Telephones ring, buttons pressing, keyboards typing, machines filing and numerous signals
beeping as if it is in adrenaline mode. I imagine myself if this is what my future job looks like,
I will demand an instant resignation because living like this is definitely not worth the effort.

Instantaneously, a loud bang comes from a distance, followed by an immediate glass

shattering from the automatic door. As I duck for cover in a swiftly manner, my experience in
first-person shooting games sends a distress signal directly into my brain as I instantly realise
that is undeniably a gunshot blast. Frozen in my spot, I witness two masked figures with each
carrying a large bag on their backs entering through the shattered glass door. One of them
pulled out a big gun from his leather jacket and fire a few deafening shots to the air, sending
deadly bullets all over the ceiling. As the gunshot echoes throughout the whole building,
everyone in the scene including myself understand that this is without a doubt, a robbery and
we are the hostages in this unexpected crime.

For a brief moment, instincts take over my body and I scan my area for any forms of
escape. After a quick check, I have found an emergency stairwell nearby and bolted towards
the stairs without a second thought. The stairs can only go up so I sprint the only route
available. As I stop at the third floor exit and regain my senses, I feel my heart pounds against
my ribs violently and I am breathing at a quick but unstable rate. My entire body is trembling
uncontrollably as if I longer have any means of control of myself. At this precise moment, I am
experiencing true terror. I have a quick flashback of myself entering a horror maze during my
last trip to a theme park with my friends last summer. Despite the realistic, gruesome effects
of the setup, the fear factor is menial comparing to the escalating tremble I am experiencing.
Never knew there will be a moment that I am inexplicably terrified of the possibility of loss, or
even death at my current age.
While I remain at a horror trance, I hear a couple of gunshots from the main hall. I
cannot imagine the horror that the other people in this bank felt as I hear screams and shouts
of terror vibrating the concrete walls. It lasts for a certain duration but eventually subdued to
silence. Now, listen up. Unless you all want to end up meeting with God now, I suggest
EVERYONE listens carefully to what I demand, or else EVERYONE will be having bullets for
breakfast! You over there, get to work. Judging by the dialogue, it is one of the robbers forcing
hostages to do something. However, his emphasis on the word everyone made me realise
that he already knew some people are hiding in this building. As the door on the bottom floor
opens and one of the robbers enters, I muster all the strength to regain control of myself and
flee to the third floor entrance. Hey, you. STOP RIGHT THERE! Unfortunately, he notices
someone is escaping his sight and I quickly enter the door and slam it hard, locking the door
well but I know the lock will not hold long against a robber with a real gun. So, I turn around
and immediately search for a place to hide. With my mind in a complete confusion and the
clock ticking towards my impending doom, I have no clue what to do to survive.
