revisions were made to the main body of this

articulate the names of community minded

On Sept 6 it was moved to accept the volunteer
commitment of two individuals who stepped
forward to serve on the committee. Welcome
Jim Rasmussen and Shirley Hall. There is still
one vacancy hint!!!
In reading this newsletter, you will note the
leadership responsibilities of many who have
undertaken coordination of community
activities. They are the folks who have
contributed to this newsletter. But there are

Eight craft enthusiasts
met with Coordinator

upon projects. On
October 14, this group will meet in the Bistro to
work on delightful Christmas Cards. Bonnie will
be providing her expertise on a voluntary basis
to help with these creations. Other fun projects
will be decided upon as the months go by. Call
Susanne if you are interested in joining in on
future projects.

Knitters
Starting on the 21st of
September, knitters will be
gathering at 1pm in the
craft room on the third
floor. Coordinator Verna Parker displayed a
variety of project possibilities to inaugural
attendees. Plans are that this group will
meet every Thursday. Beginners to
accomplished are all welcome to work on
projects of their choice, to learn from each
other and to have fun. Submitted by Verna

Refundables = Revenue
One of the revenue streams
for our community is the
money received through the
collection of refundable
bottles, cartons and containers. On each floor in
each garbage room, the BLACK BIN with lid on it
is for drink containers and anything you pay a
deposit on. A team of seven volunteers
(Wayne, Derek, Del, Robert, Scott, Hans and Vic,
working with Anne, are responsible for
collection and trips to the bottle depot. Rinsing
out of your containers is appreciated.
Please dont put any of these refundable items
in with the plastic containers in the main
garbage room as they could be taken to the
depot for refunds. This money helps pay for
birthday teas, subsidize special events,
entertainment at our catered dinners, and
committee supplies and printing. Please do not
throw money away! Please use the correct
container!

Security at Sundance
To combat
crime and
vandalism,
Sundance on
the Green has a
team of
Volunteers that take turns doing a check to
ensure the main floor is secured for the night.
This procedure is not much different than you
would have done in your own home. It takes
approximately 10 to 15 minutes and is done
once nightly anytime between 9 and 11:30pm.
For safety reasons, this must be done by a pair.
One of the two must be able to go up and down
the equivalent of one flight of stairs.
This system was put in place a couple of years
ago and offers great flexibility so as not to tie
one down. Thanks to the Volunteers that
stepped forward, it has been an absolute
success. We can rest comfortably at night
knowing our residence is secure.
As in any voluntary endeavour, the more
volunteers we have, the less shifts any one pair
has to do. A meet and greet training/review
session was held on September 13 where old
and new security folks could become
acquainted. It was especially helpful to meet
other security folks that could be called upon in
case of an emergency when one might not be
able to meet their commitment.
June is happy to take anyone considering joining
the team, on a noncommittal tour of the
security route and answer any questions. It
does not have to be a couple to do this as there
is always someone to pair up with. For more

Volunteers at Sundance
As stated in the survey, our community is strong
because of helpful leaders and dedicated
volunteers who help out when needed. Thirty
three residents put their names down to help
out on an occasional basis wherever they are
needed. Anna Bagossy pulled together a well
attended volunteer meeting on August 30.
Starting with fresh cherries provided by Betty
Naismith, introductions were made so that
everyone could put a name to a face. First order
of business was to pull together a team of
people to set up the September 20 catered
dinner and a second team to take down after
the activities are concluded. With so many
helpers, it is wonderful to be able to split the
job into two groups.
To help out with communications in our
building we have another team of volunteers.
Harold Carley will roll the newsletters and other
announcement pages, put elastic on the bundle
and put them into four deliver bags. A delivery
team of four individuals, one for each floor, will
make sure the communication gets to our
doors. They are Pat Tempro first floor,
Maureen Reville second floor, Betty Wesley
third floor, and Gisella Jablonka fourth floor.
Birthday celebrations have not been firmed up
by Coordinator June Hebner, but the helpers
are Gladys North, June Linstead and Eleanot
Klein.
Delivery notices for Wendy (Bethany Care is
ongoing with the help of volunteers Gladys
North and Betty Wesley.
All present at the meeting indicated full support
in helping out with future events.

The organ and piano are

musicians. And you are

Movies
A fantastic start to Movies
at Sundance was held Sept
6 in the Great Room with
the showing of Hidden
Figures. Over 30 people
were there. The movie for
October 4 will be Gifted, a
heartwarming look at the meaning of what a
family really is, starring Chris Evans and
McKenna Grace. The Movie for November 1st is
Going in Style one of the best comedies of the
year starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine
and Alan Arkin. Bring a loonie and join us at
7pm for popcorn and a great evening.

Elevators

Elevator # 1 is almost complete. Within the

next two weeks it should be up and running.
Once it is complete then Thyssen Elevators
will begin work in elevator #2. It will be down
for approximately 7 to 10 weeks.
