About the Woodville School: The mission of the Woodville School is to work together as a caring community to achieve our
personal best, become lifelong learners, and positively contribute to our ever changing world. Our vision is for the Woodville
School to be a diverse and inclusive school community committed to educating all students to achieve their maximum potential as
students and citizens. Woodville... Contributes

Morning Arrival: Live Drop Off - Parents may enter the school through the main entrance/ driveway of the high school, drive
along the front driveway of the high school and then loop around the side parking lot by the side of the Woodville School. Parents
stay in their vehicles and drop their child off at the side door of the school and then move immediately back out onto Farm Street. It
is safer for children to sit and exit from the rear passenger door. There are PTO volunteers available to assist. Parents are not to
enter the main entrance in front of the school to drop off their child. Please view this video for additional information.
Parking - If a parent needs to visit the school for any reason they will have to park on Farm Street and walk to the school from
there.
Walkers - If your child is a walker please make sure that s/he crosses the streets where the crossing guards are located. There will be
two crossing guards assigned to Woodville. They will be located at the exit area of the High School / Woodville School, and at the
exit to the Woodville front parking lot.
Reminders There is no parent parking on school grounds in the morning. Please park on Farm Street.

Afternoon Dismissal: Parents picking up their students at the end of the day will have three choices for parking. Parents may park
along either side of Farm Street or they can park in either the student parking lot by the Superintendents Office or the Field House
parking lot behind the High School. At the end of the day students will be dismissed from the back of the Woodville School onto
the playground at 2:45 pm. For the safety of the students, please do not park in the fire or bus lanes.

School Absences and Tardies: When your child will be absent or tardy, please call the schools main office as soon as possible. It
is essential that we account for all students. When your child is late to school, please walk your child into the main office and
sign-in your child.
Whenever a child has been absent, he/she is expected to bring a note from a parent/guardian upon return to school. Any
student absent for five or more consecutive days will be required to have a letter from the doctor excusing the absence.

Early & Change in Dismissals: To avoid disruptions in the classroom, please try to limit these changes. We understand that plans
do change and on those rare occasions, please call the office prior to 2:15pm. This ensures that we have time to relay the
information to the classroom teacher and your child.
When organizing a change in dismissal (including an early dismissal), please send a note to school with the information
regarding the dismissal change. Without a note, your child will be dismissed according to their regular dismissal plan.

School Visits: Parents are welcome to visit the school. If a parent wishes to visit classrooms while school is in session they must
first obtain permission from the principal. This contact may be made by a note sent to school with your child.
Because of our extreme concern for the safety of children and to assure that no unauthorized people are in the buildings, we
require visitors to sign in at the school office and wear a visitors badge before entering a classroom and sign out when leaving the
building. If a conference is necessary, please telephone the school office.

CORIs: In Massachusetts, all volunteers are required to have a CORI (Criminal Offender Records Information) completed by
Wakefield Public Schools prior to volunteering in the school or on field trips. CORIs must be rechecked every three years.

Food Free Birthdays: The Woodville School celebrates birthdays without food. Please contact the classroom teacher for questions
regarding acceptable celebrations ideas.

Curriculum Night: This is an opportunity to learn about the expectations for your childs classroom and grade level curriculum.
This is a PARENT ONLY event held in September.

Report Cards: Report Cards are sent home twice a year, usually January and June. Kindergarten issues reports cards in January
and June.

Parent Conference: Teachers are available to meet with parents as needed to support students progress. Formal conferences are
held in the Fall and the Spring.

Snack: Students have a daily snack. Children are encouraged to bring in a healthy, nut free, snack and/ or drink from home. We
are a NUT FREE School. Children have the option to order milk at the beginning of the school year as part of their snack.

Lunch: WPS has a Point of Sale lunch program. Each child has a four digit code that they use to purchase their lunch. This code
follows the students from one school to the next. There is information on the district website under Food Services regarding
purchasing lunch. These are the times for our grade level lunches:
- Kindergarten 11:30 - First grade 12:05-12:40
- Second grade 12:10-12:45 - Third grade 12:45-1:20 - Fourth grade 12:50-1:25

Dressing for School: Children should be dressed to play outside for recess, even on cold days. They should wear sneakers on PE
days. The Student Parent Handbook states, Children shall not wear flip flops, sandals, untied sneakers, wheeled sneakers, dangling
earrings or other articles of clothing, which may create an unsafe condition for the wearer(s).

Specials: During the week, the children attend the following specials for 40 minutes:
- Art - PE twice a week - Technology - Music

Communication: School Newsletters and flyers are posted on the Woodville Schools website. In addition, school newsletters are
also sent home electronically through School Messenger. However, there will be times when papers are sent home and it will be
important to check your childs folders. To ensure that you receive messages from School Messenger, please update your phone
number or email address on iParent. If you need assistance, call the office.
School Website: Both the district and the school website contains numerous resources (i.e. School Bus Application,
Wakefield Academy, Online payment, and more). In addition, there is a Google Calendar that includes the school events.
http://wakefieldpublicschools.org/WPS/woodville/

PTO: The Woodville School has an active PTO but is always looking for additional members. They meet monthly in the
Woodville Cafeteria. Remember there are many volunteer opportunities and we hope you are able to get involved!

PETS: The School Policy states that pets are not allowed on school property. This is both a safety issue and a health concern.
Please do not walk dogs, or other animals, on the school grounds. This also applies to parents dropping off or picking up their
children.

Bikers and Walkers: If you would like your child to walk or bike to school, please refer to the Student Parent Teacher Handbook
for additional information.

Safety Procedures: Throughout the school year, the students will be participating in safety drills including fire, evacuation, and
lockdown drills.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The Child Safety Program at the Woodville School has been developed to ensure the safety of all our
students.

Please follow the Child Safety Program procedures listed below:

Parents are asked to call 781-246-6469 ext 1 to report the absence or the tardiness of a student. Parents
may call this number at any time.

When calling, please give the following information:

* Date
* Grade
* Teacher
* Student Name
* Number of days your child will be absent and reason

Please do not request homework for your child when calling the absence line. All homework requests
must be made by calling the office at 781-246-6469 O.

The School Nurse will call the parent if a child is reported absent and if no call has been received on the
Child Safety Line.

When a student arrives tardy to school, the student must report to the office for a tardy slip before
reporting to class.

An absence note will still be required when your child returns to school after each absence.

Parents are reminded that emergency information must be kept current. If telephone numbers or an
address changes during the year, please update your Iparent account.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Regarding: Parent and Guardian BMI Testing Notice

Dear Parent/Guardian:

This letter is to let you know about the annual Student Growth Screening Program that will be happening
soon at your childs school. According to the states screening regulation (M.G.L.c.105; C.M.R. 200.500)
schools must collect the heights and weights of students in grades 1, 4, 7 and 10, each school year. It is
important to measure childrens growth at regular intervals because if there is an unusual growth pattern it
may mean there could be the risk of a health problem either now or in the future.

In addition to measuring height and weight, we use a standard screening tool called the Body Mass
Index (BMI) that uses these measurements to help identify children who may be at risk for specific
health problems. Your childs screening will be supervised by the school nurse and the students privacy
will be respected at all times. The results of your childs height, weight and BMI measurements are
strictly confidential. The results will be kept restricted in your childs school health record and can be
sent to you by mail if requested. We encourage you to share these results with your childs health care
provider. Your doctor or nurse is in the best position to evaluate your childs overall health.

If your childs health care provider has already measured your childs height and weight within the past
12 months and you would like to waive this screening, please have that information sent to me and
request that your child not participate in the screening. At your request, we will not weigh or measure
your child at school.

The purpose of the program is to give you the information about your childs growth pattern and increase
community awareness of the importance of healthy eating and active living. In the Wakefield Public
School System we address our childrens health and wellness with a comprehensive approach that
includes health screenings, physical activity programs, and nutrition and health education. This school is
very interested in making sure the children are healthy and ready to learn.

Please feel free to call me, your childs school nurse with any questions you may have about the Growth
Screening Program.

Sincerely Wakefield Public School Nurses in collaboration with the Superintendent.

MEDICATION POLICY

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Over the years, there has been some confusion about the policies for administration of prescription and non-prescription
medications at school.

PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS

Any prescription medications to be given at school must be delivered in a pharmacy/manufacture labeled container with a
prescription label attached. No more than a 30 day supply of the medication may be delivered to the school at one time.

The prescription labeled container is adequate physician documentation for 10 days administration of a medication. Any
longer administration requires written documentation from a physician or designated assistant. In either case, written
permission from the parent must be provided for administration. The state policy is explicit that children MAY NOT self
medicate, except in certain conditions such as inhalers (speak directly to your childs school nurse for other possible
exceptions.) If your child is to have an inhaler in school please request and complete the form allowing him/her to self
medicate and make sure a prescription label is attached to the inhaler.

Per Massachusetts State Policy, except as noted, A PARENT/GUARDIAN OR PARENT DESIGNATED ADULT (over
18) MUST TRANSPORT ANY MEDICATION TO AND/OR FROM SCHOOL. Please ask your pharmacy to provide
separate bottles for school and home as any bottle containing medication (i.e. liquid antibiotics) would need to be brought
in and picked up daily by an adult. Please note that the state recommendation is that antibiotics ordered for three times a
day be given before school, after school and at bedtime.

NON PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS

ALL non-prescription medications require written documentation by a physician or designated assistant and written
parent permission. This would include such medications as Tylenol, Benadryl, or cough medications. The exception
begins in grade 5 when under Wakefields school physician, Tylenol or Advil may be given in school with written parent
permission. As with prescription medications, any non-prescription medications sent in to school must be brought in and
picked up by and adult. Again as with prescription medications, CHILDREN MAY NOT SELF MEDICATE.

If at any time during the school year, you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us through your
childs school.

Sincerely,
The Wakefield Public School Nurses

Inhalers at School
If your childs plan includes the use of an inhaler, please choose one. (Parent/guardian must provide the inhaler.)

The student comes to the nurses office where the inhaler is kept unlocked and uses it under the nurses supervision.
The advantage is that the medication will be used correctly under supervision.

QUALIFIED students will be allowed to carry their inhalers. The advantage is immediate accessibility. It is
recommended a spare inhaler is kept in the nurses office in case the student should forget his/hers or the inhaler runs
out. If my child carries an inhaler with him/her at school:
The student agrees never to share the inhaler with another student
The student agrees that after two puffs, if there is not marked improvement he/she will go to the nurses office
immediately.
THE INHALER IS PROPERLY LABELED WITH THE CHILDS NAME AND THE PRESCRIPTION LABEL IS ATTACHED

Woodville C.A.R.E.S! and Olweus Bullying Prevention Program

September 2017

Dear Woodville School Families,

We welcome your children to the Woodville School for another great school year. This year our school will be
integrating social and emotional skills and learning into our classroom meetings. The children will also continue to
learn about our Core Values of C.A.R.E.S! We will continue to implement the Bully Prevention Program called
Olweus in classes as needed.

Woodville...
Contributes
Achieves
Respects
Excels
Supports!

Through class meetings and monthly All School Assemblies, the children will learn about being caring and
respectful learners.

The faculty and staff at the Woodville School try very hard to live by and teach by our Core Values - C.A.R.E.S! This
year at the Woodville, we will continue to recognize students who exemplify our Core Values at our monthly All
School Assemblies. We use our assemblies to both teach students about our Core Values, through skits, read
alouds, and sharings, and to recognize students who demonstrate our Core Values with integrity.

One element of our work toward positive school culture will be our discipline system, which focuses on a few clear
and consistent rules for student behavior. To help our students change their behavior, we use small, fair
consequences when students break our school rules. We are looking forward to a great year!

The Woodville School will have three basic rules:

1. Students will show respect to other students and to staff members.

2. Students will help others learn.
3. Students will keep themselves and others safe.

At the Woodville School we will be using three categories of unacceptable behavior: Yellow, Orange, and Red.

YELLOW: unacceptable. All staff members will address these behaviors consistently using the appropriate mix of
reminding students about what they should be doing, discussion, small consequences, and parent involvement.

ORANGE: serious. Staff members will address these behaviors using the appropriate mix of discussion, small
consequences, and parent involvement. The students classroom teacher will also keep track of Orange behaviors,
2

and a student choosing Orange behaviors three times will meet with the principal and follow the other steps
associated with Red behaviors.

RED: most serious. These behaviors will be reported to the principal or assistant principal, who will talk with the
student about his or her actions and apply the appropriate consequence. We will make every effort to reach you
by phone if your student has done something in this category, and will send home a report with your child
outlining what he or she did, what the consequence is, and what the consequence would be if your child chose this
behavior again. Even with these most serious behaviors, we know that we are working with young children who
may not understand why what they did is unacceptable or who may not have meant any harm. For those reasons,
our consequences will be on learning. If students choose to repeat these behaviors over time, their consequences
will get larger to help them learn new behaviors.

Red, Yellow, and Orange behaviors are not allowed school wide. Our current list of behaviors is attached, along
with a rubric that will be used to determine the consequences for Red behaviors.

In an effort to encourage students to exemplify our Core Values on a daily basis and to recognize students who go
above and beyond to be kind citizens, we ask them to sign The Gold Book. The Gold Standard is used to
emulate the best of the best in the Olympics and other arenas. Our students will be recognized for their great
behavior and effort by being a part of The Golden Book and being recognized publicly.

We appreciate the support that Woodville Families give us to educate their children while they are here at school.
Working cooperatively between home and school, our students learn the proper ways to behave.

Respectfully,

Michelle Zottoli

Photo Objection Form

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Photographs of students are educational records, subject to the confidentiality provisions of

the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The United States Department of
Education views student photographs as educational records that may be considered
directory information. Absent of parental/guardian objection, director information may be
disclosed without obtaining prior consent. Photographs and videos of students may be taken
while they are in class or engaged in other educational-related activities and may appear in
the school environment in print and digital form, including: yearbooks, school newspapers, and
other publications such as community newspapers, local access channels and on the districts
website and social media accounts. Parents objecting to such uses of photographs of their
child must return a written objection to their childs school administration at the beginning of
the school year.

If you have an objection to the photographing and/or videoing of your child for such
purposes, please fill out the below form. Thank you for your help.
