Several restaurants in San Francisco and nearby Silicon Valley are
revolting against technological revolution - they are banning the use of
cellular phones. Golf clubs, the theater, the museum of Modern Art and
even the Silicon Valley branch of Alcoholics Anonymous have followed
suit. Not only does the ringing of the phone and the speaking on the line
create noise and distractions, but San Francisco also dislike the rudeness
factor and self-centered aspects of the mobile phones. There is also
mounting pressure to prohibit phone use in cars after a pedestrian was
killed by a driver talking on his cell phone.
