Like Kanthar Sashti Kavasam, Sri Saanthaanantha Swaamigals Skanda Guru Skanda Guru Kavasam is a hymn filled with bakthi to invoke the true Guru within us (God) in the
Kavasam, is another famous Tamil hymn in praise of Lord Murugan in the form form of Lord Murugan and beseech Bhagavans grace to help us attain our true nature. For those
of our Guru. Sri Saanthaanantha Swaamigal is a great saint and devotee of Lord without a Guru, Sri Skanda becomes our Guru. For those with a Guru, Sri Skanda helps us realize
Skanda who has established a temple Skandasrama in Salem, India. the Oneness of Guru and God.
Guru is a spiritual teacher who helps remove the darkness of ignorance in ones life May Bhagavan Sri Skandas blessings always be upon you all.
and leads him towards the the light of wisdom, which frees one from the suffereings
of earthly life.
In Saiva Siddhanta, the importance of the Guru is paramount, for one cannot seek
God-realization without the grace and guidance of a Guru just as one cannot reach
a destination in a foreign country without the help of a tour guide. The destination in
this case is God, the foreign country is our earthly life filled with its karmic bonds,
and the tour guide is the Guru who knows all the pitfalls, deadends, detours, etc.
encountered by the devotee as he strives to reach his goal (God).
In Hinduism, it is commonly accepted and understood that the worship of Guru is

worship of God for the Guru is One with God. The Guru is the external
manifestation of the real Guru (God) who resides within all souls.
The great Chinese poet Confuscious once said, When the student is ready, the
teacher appears. Similary, only when the devotee is ready, will the Guru appear. It
is really God who senses the spiritual maturation of the devotees soul and sends
forth a Guru (saint) to help the truth-seeker attain self-realization and thus, freeing
himself from worldly existence (moksham). The fundamental foundation for this to
occur is bakthi (devotion) to God.

The sins you were born with will be removed, After coming see Kanda giri and be saved , oh people of the world,
And you would be given the power to meditate on Brahmam, Then read this Armour of Kanda giri which removes ills of Kali,
And you would be protected for ever by this armour of Kanda Guru, And become very famous in this world,
Leave out all your worries and from wherever you are, The armour of Kanda giri will cut off all desires and grant salvation.
Read with concentration, this armour of Skanda Guru, If you do,
oru tharam kavacham odhin ull-alukku pogum,
dEivangal, dEvargal, chithargal, bhakthargal, iru tharam yethuveer-aalE yenniya-thellam kittum,
pOtriduvar, yevalumE purindu iduvar nischayamaay, moondru tharam oduthin mun-nirpan skanda guru,
skanda guru kavacham samsaya peyottum, naan murai odhi dinam nalla varam peruveer,
anyaana-mamum agathri arul oliyum kaattum, aiyndhu murai dinamada odhi panchaaksharam pethru. 430

If you read this armour once the dirt from your mind will vanish,
Gods , demi gods, sages and devotees, If it is read two times , we will get all that we wish,
Would praise you and would definitely obey your wishes, If it is read three times, Skanda Guru would stand in front of you,
This armour of Skanda Guru would drive away the devil of suspicion, Read it four times daily and get all good boons,
Would remove ignorance , would show you the divine grace, Read it five times daily and get the blessings of Lord Shiva.
And the Jnana Skanda Guru would stand in front of you.

thannil unnaik-kaati, unnil thannaik-kaati, yettu murai yethil at-tamaa sithi kittum,
yengum thanaik-kaatti, yenkum-unaik-kaattiduvaan, onbadhu tharam odhin marana bhayam oliyum,
skanda jothiyaana kandhan kandha giri irundu, pathu tharam odhi nitham pattru aruthu vaalveerE. 435

Read it six times and get consolation,
He would be within you and become your inner light, Read it seven times and everything will obey you,
He will show himself in you and you in himself, Read it eight times you would get internal peace,
He would show himself everywhere and show you everywhere, Read it nine times , fear of death will vanish,
The Kanda who is the Skanda flame would from Skanda giri, And reading ten takes would make you live unattached.
Carry his weapon of stick and would appear before you.

And this would remove the dirt of your mind and your mind would become clean,
In the stream of virgins, pray the Virgin goddesses,
Salute them and climb the Kanda mountain.,
kandha giri yeri nyaana kandha guru kavachamidhai,

paaraayanam cheydhu ulagil pakkiyamellaam pethriduveer. 447
After climbing the Kanda mountain , if you read the Armour of Kandam
Then you would be blessed will all the luck of the world.
kandha giri kavacham muthrithru.
