Axisymmetric analysis is carried out when there is a geometric and
loading symmetry about an axis of the body that is being analysed. Due to this rotational symmetry about an axis a 3- dimensional problem can be analysed as a 2- dimensional model generating the same result. [CITATION Roc17 \l 6153 ] A finite element modal of the pressure vessel was generated as shown in the figure below, preventing motion in the perpendicular direction of the axis of symmetry. The modelling was carried out using simple quadrilateral axisymmetric elements and the location of the maximum stress was identified. The contour plot of the von Mises stress for the pressure vessel is given and this type of data representation is used by many industries to determine the failure criterion their designs.
