How differently social classes are treated in the classroom has become a major topic of

debate over the past several years. Some of these issues have arisen from situations that were

poorly handled, to other reasons such as a student being discriminated against. One of the main

topics that separates many kids in the classroom is the education, occupation, and income of their

individual families. Unfortunately over the years the number of kids that are affected by this

situation remains constant and is not improving. There's also a relationship between race and

class in the United States. A high proportion of people from African-American and Latino

backgrounds oftentimes come from unprivileged backgrounds and because of this they are not

always given the same opportunities that presented too many other people. While there are other

independent variables that affect the inequalities that many students are burdened with it cannot

be completely excluded from the equation. It does not go without saying that the lower to middle

class has made great strides in improving their education and their likelihood of success.

However the privileged have seen an increased rate which far surpasses that of lower to

middle-income families.

The sad part is that too many people believe that this problem can be fixed purely through

school funding, however according to the Coleman report, which said that there was only a 1%

difference that could be found through balancing the quality of high schools through funding.

They argue that our society as a whole will have to change before more drastic measures can be

made in schools. Furthermore, they said the only way that the United States could become truly

equal is through socialism which would make every job in an instance equal.
