HW01
Supplemental Info

Some extra info/help on part c of Problem 1. The Wilson model is in fact (note the sign change
in the second line from - + to - - and L for A):

L12 L 21
ln g1 = -ln ( x1 + L12 x2 ) + x2 -
x1 + L12 x2 x2 + L 21 x1
L12 L 21
ln g 2 = -ln ( x2 + L 21 x1 ) - x1 -
x1 + L12 x2 x2 + L 21 x1

You have to find the L values from this relation:

V2 -A
L12 = exp 12
V1 RT
V -A
L 21 = 1 exp 21
V2 RT

I used molar volumes (V) for ethanol of 58 and for water of 18.07.
