Marks: 100 Note: Answer any FOUR questions, two each from Part- A and Part-B, Part - C is compulsory. Part With a block diagram explain the information processing functions in computer integrated manufacturing. ‘The average part produced in a certain batch manufacturing plant must be processed through an average of six machines. There are 20 new batches of parts launched each week. The average operational time = 6 min, average setup time = 5 hr, average batch size = 25 acceptable parts and average non-operation time/batch = 10hrs. There are 18 machines in the plant. The plant operates an average of 10 production hours/week. Scrap rate is 10%, Determine a) MLT of an average part b) Plant capacity c) Plant utilization d) Average level of WIP in the plant e) The WIP ratio and TIP ratio Briefly explain the different methods of transporting work pieces on flow lines. A rotary indexing table is driven by a five slotted Geneva mechanism. The driver rotates at 5Orev/min. Determine the cycle time, available process time and the time spent in each cycle to index the table (Repositioning time). List the objectives of the use of flow lines. Briefly explain the lower bound approach used for analyzing a production line. A 16 station automatic transfer line has following operating characteristics. Te =0.75 min; Ta~3.0 min (constant) P= 0.01 for all work stations. A proposal has been submitted to place a storage buffer between stations 8 and 9 to improve the over all efficiency of the transfer line, what is the current line efficiency (use the upper bound approach), and what is the maximum possible efficiency that would result from the use of a storage buffer? If the capacity of the storage buffer is to be 10 work parts, calculate the line efficiency and the average production rate of the two stage transfer line.
