Computational exercise CE1

Getting started with PRO/II

In PRO/II, make a simulation model that does the following (see flowsheet below):

Make a gas turbine model with a compressor, combustor and turbine/expander. The pressure ratio
of the compressor should be 15. The temperature entering the turbine is 1500 Kelvin. The fuel is
methane. After the gas turbine, the hot exhaust is put through a boiler where steam at 50 bar and
750 Kelvin is generated.

Use a fixed air flow into the compressor, and use a controller to find the fuel flow necessary to
obtain the turbine inlet temperature.

Note: for the combustor: Use a Gibbs reactor for calculating the chemical reaction between the hot
compressed air and the fuel. Make sure there is excess oxygen after the combustor.

Include display of the most important information in the flowsheet. Make use of a calculator to find
the gas turbine cycle efficiency display the results in the flowsheet.
