The Orgasmic History of Oxytocin: Love, Lust, and Labor

Oxytocins targets is the erectile tissues, corpus spongiosum and corpus cavernosum. It has
shown to have an indirect effect on penile erection. It is also thought to be associated with ejaculation
by increasing sperm number. It also appears to have a contracting effect on ejaculatory tissues
especially the prostatic urethra, bladder neck, and the ejaculatory duct. It has been shown that the
oxytocin stimulated ejaculation is mediated by vasopressin receptors. Oxytocin may have a role to play
in management of male infertility.

Low levels of oxytocin in blood plasma has been seen in that of autistic children both male and
female. IV administered oxytocin has been shown to help autistic adults with the ability to evaluate
emotions of others. It is also linked to the ability for humans to trust each other. Also it is shown to be
associated with happiness.

It is a much more sophisticated hormone in the human physiology than originally thought to be.
It is a complex part of motherhood, but also trust, love, orgasm, and erection.
