Buried tank
When space indoors is at a premium and there is no room for a pellet tank, a buried pellet tank is the ideal solution.
The tank can be buried outdoors in your garden. Only an unobtrusive filler cover shows that it is there. A suction feed
tube connects the tank to the P2. Any excavation work can be carried out at the same time that your tank is delivered.

Wood pellets
Wood pellets - fuel of the future
Pellet are delivered by tanker which unloads the pellets directly into the your wood store. When you buy pellets you
should pay particular attention to the quality offered. Only use pellets from an approved manufacturer certified to
the latest standards. This is your guarantee of pellet quality.
When trees grow they take carbon dioxide (CO2) out of the air. When we burn wood
this carbon dioxide is returned to the atmosphere. The amount of CO2 released during
burning is the same as the amount released by normal rotting and decay in forests and
woods. Heating with pellets is therefore heating the natural, environment-friendly way.
More and more home owners are considering changing over to a pellet boiler. The reasons are clear. Pellet supplies
are plentiful and not subject to the crises and fluctuations of heating oil supplies. When planning a pellet heating
system the first thing to look at is your existing heating system because this will be part of your new system. An oil tank
room can usually be converted into a pellet store without any problems. In most cases you can continue to use existing
radiators and circulation pumps. Pellet-fired boilers need a moisture-resistant chimney so it will be necessary to have
the chimney examined and approved by a specialist.

Economic, comfortable and safe down to the last detail
The problem:
The standard rotary valves used for back-
fire protection have the drawback that they
pulverise a lot of the pellet fuel thus causing
high dust levels in the feed system.
The solution:
The Frling pellet valve has been designed
exclusively for use with pellets, handling the
pellets gently without creating dust. The
valve has a unique twin-chamber system
that practically eliminates the risk of back-
fire. The precision seal surfaces prevent the
entry of any leakage air which might
otherwise interfere with efficient
combustion.
1
Seal surfaces:
The two seal surfaces between the rotor
and the valve body are machined to fine
tolerances to ensure a tight fit and guar-
antee that no leakage air can enter.

The pellets are delivered by tanker and blown into the store
through a filler pipe. A second pipe is used to extract dust from
the store. To power the extractor fan we recommend that you
provide an easily-accessible power supply socket close to the filler
pipe coupling.
The store premises must of course be dry. Damp will cause the pellets to swell and break up.
10
Pellet store
Size and shape of the pellet store
The store should be able to hold 1.2 to 1.5 times your yearly pellet requirement. Experience shows that a detached
house with 150 m2 of living space will need a store room with a floor area of 6 - 8 m2. The exact amount of space
required depends on the system's heat output. You can use this rule of thumb to calculate the size of the store room
(plus the unused space):
For both the screw feeder system and the universal suction system, the store room should be small and rectangular in
order to ensure that the empty, unused space in the corners is kept as low as possible.
1
The store must not be filled to the top.
You should leave a gap for the air to circulate
above the pellets. 1
2
The sides of the store need to slope at an
angle of 45; this means that there will be
empty, unused space under the store 3
construction.
3
The actual volume storage volume for pellets
is the volume of the room minus the volume 2 2
of the empty space. In most cases two-thirds
of a room's volume will be available for
storage.
11
Details und construction
1
Walls and ceilings:
The walls and ceilings of the store room and of the boiler room must be fire-proof in compliance
with local regulations. Any gaps around holes made in walls must be filled with insulating
material in compliance with the standards NORM B 3836 or DIN 4102-11. The store room
must be airtight. This is to prevent dust escaping during filling and to prevent the entry of
warm, damp air which could lead to a build up of condensation inside the store.
2
Store room door - wooden boards:
The store room door must be a fire door with a Class T30
fire resistance rating; it must have a seal. On the inside of
the room you should install wooden boards to stop the
pellets pressing against the door.
3
Filler pipes:
The pellets are blown into the store through filler pipes in the centre. Any dust
created in the store during filling is extracted through a second pipe. For technical
data about the pipe couplings, see page 14.
4
Buffer mat:
A buffer mat made from rubber should be posi-
tioned opposite the filler pipes at approximately
200 mm
5
Sloping sides:
In order to ensure that the pellet store empties completely, it should be built with sloping sides. The construc-
tion of the sloping sides is of primary importance. For technical details about the sloping sides, see page 15.
12
Pellet store
The pellet store must be dry. Damp will cause the pellets to swell and break up.
There should therefore be no water pipes in the store.

Rotation protection:
The pipes must be bricked in or
cemented into the brickwork to pre-
vent them from rotating. Pipes must
be secured firmly to stop them from
rotating. Pipes which are fixed in
300 mm
2
Earth:
The filler pipes must be earthed in
order to prevent the build up of elec-
trostatic discharges.
3
Metal pipes:
Do not use metal pipes which have
welds on the inside. The welds will
cause the pellets to break up when
they pass through the pipe.
4
Angle bends:
Use 45 angle bends for lighting
wells. Do not use 90 angle bends.
14
Pellet store
Sloping sides
In order to support the weight of pellets, the sloping sides of the store must have a strong supporting framework.
The framework should be dimensioned so that the sloping sides are not deformed when subject to static loads.
You should remembers that 1 m of pellets weighs approximately 650 kg.
You should ensure that the pellets can slide smoothly down the sides. This means that the sloping sides must slope at
an angle of at least 45 and must have a smooth surface. In order to ensure that the pellets slide downwards smoothly,
there should be no edges, projections or steps in the sides.

sizes and the distance between
the wooden cross-slats should be

When planning the pellet store one of your first considerations should be the type of pellet feeder system used.
The figure above shows a pellet store which uses the universal suction system. The technical data for each of the
feeder systems is given in the pages below.

Pellet feeder systems
Screw feeder system
Feeding the pellets out of the store with a feed screw is a well-established method and is used primarily where the
store is close to the boiler room. The feed screw is installed in the store and conveys the pellets over the back-fire
protection to the boiler which can be fed from both the left or the right sides. The design of this system is simple and
reliable.
In addition to the layout details given above you should also note the following points about store construction:
The slope of the framework must match the slope of the You should also ensure that the weight of the pellets
feed system. The sloping sides must make contact with does not rest on the screw trough.
the wall and the floor.
Do not fix or cement the transfer trough to the brickwork. Fixing the transfer trough to the brickwork will
create a bridge transferring all mechanical noise and vibration to the brickwork.
17
Flexible, space-saving
The pellets are fed by the suction box along two flexible hoses to the boiler's day store.
The suction unit can be installed to the left or to the right of the boiler.
You should position and install the bag silo in conformity with local fire prevention regulations.
Choose a silo size to match the heat output rating of your boiler. As a general rule we recommend that you
choose a silo which is large enough to hold your yearly pellet supply.
The following bag silo types are available:

Universal or space saving
The universal suction system is designed for those situation where the store is not next door to the boiler
room and the pellets have to be fed over a considerable distance. With a hose length of 15 metres,
pellets can be fed to the next floor up. Once again the suction unit can be mounted to the left or to the
right of the boiler. The system is easy to install and very reliable.
Three suction probes positioned uniformly in the store ensure trouble-free pellet feed and guarantee that
the store empties uniformly. Changeover between the suction probes is manual or fully automatic as
required.

Standards, directives, versions, design information
The fresh air must be drawn in directly from the outside. The exhaust air must be discharged directly to
the outside.
The water used to top-up or refill boilers must be softened beforehand to prevent the build up of
limescale.
Germany:
In Germany, systems with an output of less than 50 kW are not subject to the directives but are subject
to heating systems legislation. For more information you should contact the authorities responsible.
Other countries:
Other countries have a variety of directives, reference standards and regulations regarding heating
systems. You should contact the local authority responsible.

Technical data
Chimney connection / chimney system
The standard EN 303-5 specifies that the entire flue gas system must be designed to prevent, wherever possible,
damage caused by seepage, insufficient feed pressure and condensation.
It should be noted here that flue gas temperatures of less than 160 K above
room temperature can occur within the permitted operating range of the boiler.
Design information:
The connection between the boiler and the chimney system should be as short
as possible. The upward angle of the connection should not exceed 30 - 45.
Insulate the connection.
When installing the connection you should take into account local standards
and regulations. 1
1
Draught limiter:
The best position for installing a draught limiter is in the chimney under the
flue gas pipe mouth because there is always under-pressure at this point.
