SPARKing our Interest in Data

I can collect, display, and analyze data to solve problems.

Ms. H would like to know what SPARK activities Grade 5 students enjoy. She
would also like to be able to compare the data between the classes (Room 5
vs. Room 6). Ms. H has created three different questions related to the problem:
What is your favorite SPARK activity?
Which is your favorite type of SPARK activity: whole group, small group,
individual?
Do you like running or walking during SPARK?
Students will work in partners to collect, display, and analyze data in order to
determine which of the questions above is the best question Ms.H can use to
solve her problem.

Collect:
Students will conduct an interview or questionnaire based on their chosen
question.
Display:
Students will create a t-chart, table, or venn diagram to organize their
data.
Students will create a double bar graph to display the data.
Analyze:
Students will determine the most popular SPARK activities for the Grade 5
students as a whole and for each class.
Students will determine which question was the best and will be able to
justify their answer.
