Consumer buying behavior is the sum total of a consumer's attitudes, preferences, intentions, and

decisions regarding the consumer's behavior in the marketplace when purchasing a product or
service. The study of consumer behavior draws upon social science disciplines of anthropology,
psychology, sociology, and economics.\

The researchers provided the shopper respondents with one

set of purchasing behavior factors. These includes quantity of

goods they purchase, frequency of shopping and convenience when

shopping. The respondents are asked to rank these factors from 1

3. 1 being the most affected factor by the ordinance and 3 being

the least affected.

Table 4.2 shows the purchasing behavior factors of the

shoppers. It also shows the sum of ranks of each factors and its

corresponding rank as perceived by the shoppers.

It can be inferred from the table that the most affected

factor for the shoppers is the convenience when shopping with a

sum of rank of 75. The quantity of goods they purchase and the

frequency of shopping come next with sums of ranks of 107 and

118.5, respectively.

This implies that the shoppers are having difficulty when it

comes to convenience when shopping with paper as the packaging

material for the goods they purchased. The use of paper bags as

provided in the ordinance brought uneasiness to the shoppers as

they carry the goods with them. Most of the shoppers complained

that paper bags are easily torn and disintegrate when wet.
Furthermore, the quantity of goods purchased by the shoppers

being the second most affected factor indicates that the paper

bags are not capable of handling many and heavy goods.

Lastly, the frequency of shopping is the least affected factor

for the shoppers. It suggests that the use of paper bags does not

substantially affect the frequency of their shopping.

This implies that during the implementation of SCAPO, the

purchasing behavior of the shoppers when it comes to the quantity

of goods and convenience has changed. This also signifies that;

these changes are due mainly to the quality of paper bags offered

by the establishments. Consequently, the quality of paper bags

must be improved to be strong enough to carry the goods.
