Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia and prostate cancer are global heath problems, in
either incidence occurrences or mortality. So, in order for early diagnosis and
therapy, requires histopathologic features of BPH and prostate cancer. Location:
Location of the study is at Rumah Sakit Umum Pusat Haji Adam Malik,Medan. It is
choosen due to the number of cases available and to take account that this hospital
is one of the centre of reference from parts of Sumatera Utara on several diseases.
Objective: This study is to determine the feature of histopathologic findings of
BPH and prostate cancer patients in Pathology Anatomy laboratorium in Rumah Sakit
Umum Pusat Haji Adam Malik, Medan from the year 2008-2009. Method: This study is a
cross-sectional descriptive study which shows retrospective data of BPH and
prostate cancer patients from 2008 to 2009 in Rumah Sakit Umum Pusat Haji Adam
Malik, Medan. Result: The result of the study is that BPH patients are more
dominant prostate cancer patients with 56 cases (73%) compared to prostate cancer
patients with 21 cases (27%). Adenocarcinoma is the most histopathologic findings
with 61.9% of cases compared to transitional carcinoma with only 38,1%. 070100252
