A puppy of the akita breed is sent by his Japanese breeder to the United States

on request, in the transport of the dog the cage falls off the vehicle and goes to a
train station where a university professor named Parker Wilson (Richard Gere)
Finds him lost and slightly wounded.
He then decides to take it home until he finds the owner to claim it. Days pass
and no one claims for the puppy, nor does anyone find who wants to adopt it.
Professor Parker cares for the pet and his wife, seeing the fondness that was her
husband with the puppy ended up accepting to stay with them permanently.
After days of play and mutual affection, the teacher and the puppy established a
very strong bond. But one day teaching at the university, Professor Parker
suffered a heart attack and died on the spot. His dog kept waiting for him at the
train station for hours until a relative took the pet home. Despite this, the next
day Hachi escapes and returns to the train station to wait for his master, seeing
that it does not arrive, is spent there day and night.
Professor Parker's wife sells the house, moves to live with her daughter and
they also take the dog, but still away from the old house where they lived, the
dog retreats back to the old house, but seeing that he lived another Unknown
family, returned to the train station in search of his beloved deceased owner.
Years go by and day after day Hachi keeps going every morning to the train
station to wait for his owner and thus spend the long days of his life. Professor
Parker's family witnessed how, after many years, Hachi kept waiting for his
owner at the usual station, looking old and weak.
Finally a cold night under the wagons of a train, the pet dies, dreaming
moments before with the presence of its owner in the station. The daughter of
the deceased teacher, tells her 10 year old son the sad story of his father and his
Pet loyal The child learns what love and true loyalty is and tells them in school
in an exercise where they make them explain who they consider a hero.
