Horrors of 1998

By: Keisha Andivia

Horror, is all I felt

When I heard your voice
Screaming, at the back of my head
The loud sound pounding
For justice! you screamed
For equality! you screamed, again
For Indonesia! you screamed, one last time
Before BANG! The bullet slipped through your skull
Putting you in a lifeless state

Before you fall in an eternity long rest,

I looked at you and saw red
Bloodshot, brave, backstabbed
You are just one fire, in a million
Standing with endless young and strong students
Begging for democracy and integration
Things the authorities wont give

The 1998 tragedy was a plague,

Infecting us with grief and graphic gruesome memoirs
In only politics were legitimate
And sovereignty was adequate
This bloodshed would not happen

In the end, all we need is cooperation

Between the government and us
Like the sun and moon
There are ups and downs
But we are bound together
Trying to reach prosperity
