UConn Course Description


Three credits. An introduction to basic concepts and areas of environmental concern and how these problems can be
effectively addressed. Topics include human population; ecological principles; conservation of biological resources;
biodiversity; croplands, rangelands, forestlands; soil and water conservation; pollution and water management; and
wildlife and fisheries conservation.

pp.
Learning Objectives
All students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of natural systems and gain understanding of some of the major environmental
problems at the local and global level;
2. Gain appreciation for and knowledge of various disciplines in natural resource conservation;
3. Understand how professionals in the field are involved in coping with and solving problems.
Course Grading
You may notice that your high school grade and UConn grade differ. It is possible that two different grades can be
awarded for the same course. Your high school grade is determined by your high school. Your UConn course grade is
determined by the grading rubric set by the University department.

The following breakdown will be used to assign final grades:

The final exam will be comprehensive. Students are responsible for all assigned text material, material presented in
class, as well as any reading assignments. *Your high school and UConn grade will differ due to SAE and Portfolio.

Course Eligibility Guideline: Successful completion of two years of high school science is recommended.
