1. Organism: A living thing. An individual animal, plant, or single-celled life
form. 2. Cell: The basic unit of structure and function in living things. 3. Unicellular: A living thing made up of 1 cell. 4. Multicellular: A living thing consisting of many cells. 5. Metabolism: The combination of chemical reactions through which an organism builds up or breaks down materials. 6. Stimulus: Signal to which an organism responds. 7. Response: An action or change in behavior that occurs as a result of a stimulus. 8. Development: The process of change that occurs during an organisms life to produce a more complex organism. 9. Asexual Reproduction: A reproductive process that involves only one parent and produces offspring that are genetically identical to the parent. 10. Sexual Reproduction: Two cells from different parents unite to produce the first cell of a new organism. 11. Autotroph: An organism that is able to capture energy from sunlight or chemicals and use it to produce its own food. 12. Heterotroph: An organism that cannot make its own food and gets food by consuming other living things. 13. Homeostasis: Process by which organisms maintain a relatively stable internal environment. Example: Sweat when its hot 14. Evolution: ability of a group of organisms (species) to change over time 15. Migration: when organisms travel to a different location every year 16. Hibernation: when organisms have long periods of sleep during cold/harsh weather. Metabolism slows down in order to preserve energy.
