The Purpose of Trials

1. Trials come to test the strength of our faith.

2 Chron 32:31 31 Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes
of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in
the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his
heart.
Hab 3:17-19

17Sapagka't bagama't ang puno ng igos ay hindi namumulaklak, Ni

magkakaroon man ng bunga sa mga puno ng ubas; Ang bunga ng olibo ay
maglilikat. At ang mga bukid ay hindi magbibigay ng pagkain; Ang kawan
ay mahihiwalay sa kulungan, At hindi na magkakaroon ng bakahan sa mga
silungan:

18Gayon ma'y magagalak ako sa Panginoon, Ako'y magagalak sa Dios ng

aking kaligtasan.

19Si Jehova, na Panginoon, siyang aking lakas; At ginagawa niya ang aking
mga paa na gaya ng sa mga usa. At ako'y palalakarin niya sa aking mga
mataas na dako. Sa Pangulong Manunugtog, sa aking mga panugtog na
kawad.

2. Trials come to humble us.

2 Cor 12:7 7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the
abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the
messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
Deut 8:2
2At iyong aalalahanin ang buong paraan na ipinatnubay sa iyo ng
Panginoon mong Dios nitong apat na pung taon sa ilang, upang kaniyang
mapangumbaba ka, at subukin ka, na maalaman kung ano ang nasa iyong
puso, kung iyong gaganapin ang kaniyang mga utos o hindi.
3. Trials detach us from worldly things.
Heb 11:24-26
24 Byfaith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son
of Pharaoh's daughter;
25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy
the pleasures of sin for a season;
26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in
Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
4. Trials gives us an eternal perspective.
Rom 8:18
18 For
I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be
compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
2 Cor 4:16
16Kaya nga hindi kami nanghihimagod; bagama't ang aming pagkataong
labas ay pahina, nguni't ang aming pagkataong loob ay nababago sa araw-
araw. 17Sapagka't ang aming magaang kapighatian, na sa isang sangdali

hindi sa mga bagay na nangakikita, kundi sa mga bagay na hindi
nangakikita: sapagka't ang mga bagay na nangakikita ay may katapusan;
datapuwa't ang mga bagay na hindi nangakikita ay walang hanggan.
5. Trials reveal what we really love.
Luke 14:26 26 Kung ang sinomang tao'y pumaparito sa akin, at hindi
napopoot sa kaniyang sariling ama, at ina, at asawang babae, at mga anak,
at mga kapatid na lalake, at mga kapatid na babae, oo, at pati sa kaniyang
sariling buhay man, ay hindi siya maaaring maging alagad ko.
6. Trials enable us to help others in their suffering.
Luke 22
32 ButI have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art
converted, strengthen thy brethren.
7. Trials come to develop strength for greater usefulness.
James 1:12
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he
shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that
love him.
