1. What is meant by classification?

Classification is the process of arranging things or items in groups or classes according to their
resemblance and affinities and give expression to the units of attributes and give expression to the
units of attributes that may subsist amongst the diversity of individuals.

2. What are the different types of classification?

The different types of classification are:

a. Geographical classification: Classification is according to place , area or region


b. Historical classification: It is according to the lapse of time
c. Qualitative classification: classification according to attributes of the subjects
d. Quantitative classification : Data are classified with respect to the magnitude of the
numerical values.
3. What is grouping error?

If the classes are formed in such a way that the frequencies are evenly distributed throughout the
class interval, it is justified to assume that the frequencies are centred at the mid-value of the class.
But in some cases this assumption will not be true or hold or valid., it leads to error which is known
as grouping error. Grouping error affects the accuracy of the results.
