Signage and Way finding

Synopsis

As a part of my Graduation Project, I have decided to study and design a working system of way finding
and signage for ABCD (Name changed), while keeping in mind the structural and graphical aspect of the
system with respect to the human scale, material and manufacturing of the signage.

Signage refers to the design or use of signs and symbols to communicate a message to a specific group,
usually for the purpose of marketing or a kind of advocacy. A signage also means signs collectively or
being as a group.

The challenge this project exhibits to me is in terms of problem solving and making navigation easier for
people entering the premises by the use of graphical and structural elements in place. Signage project
requires information collection, documentation and study of any existing signage, concept research,
exploration and refinement, and after the concept is made and presented, the observation and study of
the implementation of the signage and effects on the area.

As a graphic designer, my role in this project is to study the site and any existing signage in place and to
design a working system of signage from the graphical aspects such as pictograms, color psychology to
structural aspects and any manufacturing process involved and to document the entire process.

The duration of the project is three months and will start from 3rd April 2017. I will be undertaking this
project under the guidance of my mentor; Mr Udhir present at the Four Square Design firm with whom I
will be working on this project. The graduation project is expected to reflect the skills and learning that I
have gathered over the past years of design learning. The project requires in-depth research,
brainstorming and conceptualization. Conceptualization is made, keeping in mind, graphics, material
and manufacturing constraints. After the concept is nalized, it will be detailed out and documented
accordingly.
