Lesson idea implementation:

The class will begin with a PowerPoint slide on different historical figures such as Jackie
Robinson, Juliette Gordon Low, and Sequoyah. Students will then use Inspiration 9.23 to create a
diagram and identify key topics about the lives and contributions of the historical person of their
choice. This assignment should take 15-20 minutes to be completed. Each student will present his or
her work to the class. Students will save their work under their name, so that I can go back and
provide proper feedback about their assignment. For example, complementing their design and
checking the accuracy of the information.
In relation to the standards, I will ask each individual student questions about their person in
order to assess their knowledge. For example, someone who choose Sequoyah, would be asked
about the development of a Cherokee alphabet. However in order to assess the students overall
knowledge of the days lesson, they will be given an exit ticket with multiple questions and short
responses of the historical figures discussed. As a teacher, I will be able to see who has understood
or remembered key topics about the historical figures. I would extend the student learning to a
higher learning level by making it into group work and having the students create a skit by
interviewing the person of their choice. Both students will come up with the questions that will be

asked and decide who will be the interviewer and who will play the historical figure. In the end, the
students will perform their work to the class.
