The Democratic Partys House District 26 Vacancy Committee is announcing


Representative Diane Mitsch Bushs formal resignation of her seat representing
State House District 26 in the Colorado House of Representatives. We would like
to thank Representative Mitsch Bush for her excellent advocacy for all the citizens
of House District 26. Diane has been an exemplary legislator working on behalf of
Eagle and Routt Counties, and, we wish her the very best in her future goals and
endeavors.

The Vacancy Committee hereby announces the process it will follow to appoint a
Representative to fill the vacancy of Rep. Mitsch Bushs remaining term, in
accordance with Colorado Revised Statute and Colorado Democratic Party rules.
All eligible persons are encouraged to apply. Eligibility requirements are defined
by Colorado Revised Statutes. Candidates must be:
At least 25 years of age
A resident of Colorado for at least 1 year
A resident of House District 26 for at least 1 year (Eagle or Routt county)
Registered as a Democrat for at least one year
A US citizen

The Colorado House District 26 Vacancy Committee is asking persons interested in


being considered for appointment to this seat to submit a letter of intent,
professional resume and a completed Candidate Information Form to the House
District 26 Vacancy Committee, no later than October 20, 2017, at 5pm at the
following email address - h26vacancy@gmail.com. According to Colorado
Revised Statute, nominations will also be accepted from the floor at the October
28, 2017 Vacancy Committee Meeting. The Vacancy Committee is also asking all
candidates nominated from the floor to submit the above referenced candidate
information when nominated.
The Candidate Information Form will be emailed upon request, or may be
downloaded from the Eagle County Democratic Party or Routt County
Democratic Party websites, eagledems.org, routtdems.org. For further

2017 Vacancy Process & Candidate Information Form

Colorado State Representative Diane Mitsch Bush is vacating her seat as Colorado House
District 26s representative effective November 2, 2017. In order to insure continued
representation for citizens in Colorado House District 26 (HD26), and in accordance with
Colorado Revised Statute and Colorado Democratic Party (CDP) rules, the CDP HD26
Vacancy Committee will appoint a new Colorado House Representative for HD26. This
process is open and encourages all candidates who meet the qualifications of the Colorado
Revised Statutes for a State House Representative. The CDP HD26 Vacancy Committee
meeting and voting will be enthusiastically open to the public.

Process:

The House District 26 Vacancy Committee is asking persons interested in being considered
for this position to submit a letter of intent, a professional resume and the enclosed Colorado
House District 26 Candidate information Form to hdvacancy26@gmail.com to be received
no later than October 20, 2017 5pm. The House District 26 gmail account will be monitored
daily by the HD26 Chair and Vice Chair; and, all information emailed to
hdvacancy26@gmail.com will be emailed to Vacancy Committee Members on a daily basis.
According to Colorado Revised Statute, nominations will also be accepted from the floor at
the October 28, 2017 Vacancy Committee Meeting. The Vacancy Committee is asking all
candidates nominated from the floor to also submit the above referenced candidate
information when nominated. By submitting this information, the candidate understands
and agrees that any information provided in this process will be made available to the
public.

All information emailed to hdvacancy26@gmail.com will be emailed to Vacancy Committee


Members on a daily basis.

The CDP HD26 Vacancy Committee will meet with qualified candidates in open session
Saturday, October 28, 2017 starting at 10am at the Historic Crossan Building, Yampa,
Colorado. Each qualified candidate will have a timed 10 minutes for a 1st and 2nd nomination
and an acceptance speech. Each candidate will also be asked the same 3 questions with a
timed response time of 5, 2, and 2 minutes respectively. Candidates will then have an
opportunity for a timed 1 minute closing speech. The order of candidates will be determined
by lot.

The CDP HD26 Vacancy Committee will vote by written ballot. Each ballot will be numbered
and assigned to a specific Vacancy Committee Member. Candidates or their assigned
representative may observe the ballot count. Winner will be by majority vote. If there are
more than 2 candidates and the first vote does not achieve a majority, the candidate
receiving the fewest number of votes will be dropped and a new vote will take place.

Colorado Revised Statute State House Qualifications:


At least 25 years of age
A resident of Colorado for at least one year
A resident of Colorado House District 26 for at least 12 months
Registered as a Democrat for at least one year
A United States Citizen
