Narrative:

Clear story, conflict, progression, ending changes from beginning

Subject matter, recent events, controversial topics, abuse, racism, sexism, etc

E.g: Katy Perry, chained to the rhythm- talks about unity, negative sides to unity, media
control, bright pastel colours to convey unifying, confining nature of society

E.g: Mika ft. Arianna Grande, popular song- themes of betrayal, trust, staying true to
yourself, not standing bullying

Lighting:

Used to evoke certain feelings or themes in the music video, dark light could be used to
convey sad themes (e.g: death, loneliness, etc), bright lighting could be used to convey
happy themes (e.g: family, friendship, etc)

Colours can be used to convey feelings or themes of music videos, red could connote
anger, lust, blue could connote sadness, isolation, etc

Cinematography:

Storyboarding, scenes need to be planned, shot with appropriate actors/ actresses,


locations

Camera movement can be used to show more scenery, convey more of the story or
general theme, e.g: tracking shot of huge beautiful forest connotes mysticism, nature,
etc

Has to fit with lyrics and music of song, related to songs theme and tone from lyrics and
rhythm, beat
