Sault Ste.

Marie Police Department

Press Release

Date: September 4, 2017

Re: Threat to Sault Area High School

At approximately 7:30 this morning an anonymous threat was made over social
media against Sault High School. Sault Ste. Marie police patrol officers and
detectives immediately responded to the high school and middle school in order
to secure the sites. Working with school officials detectives began an
investigation.

The Chippewa County Sheriffs Department is investigating a similar type

incident that occurred at the Rudyard area schools yesterday. Through their
continuing investigation the Sheriffs Department determined that there was no
immediate threat. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Department is working with the
Sheriffs Department to see if the two incidents may be connected in some way.

As a precautionary measure, both the Sault High School and Middle Schools
have been placed on lock-down by the districts administration. School is in
session and the children are safe; however, per the lock-down policy no one may
enter the schools and students are not allowed to leave. Messages have been
sent out over various social media applications to all parents of the situation.
Barring unforeseen information, it is expected that the lock-down will be lifted
shortly. Parents will be notified through the school districts regular notification
process.
