South Carolina (SC) TRiO Alumni Association Spirit Award

The South Carolina TRiO Alumni Association (SCTAA) was created to provide a network of
social and professional support for persons who have previously participated in one of the TRiO
Programs in South Carolina and the friends of the TRiO Programs. This association also was
created to further heighten public awareness of the needs of disadvantaged students and to
provide a mechanism for former TRiO participants to voice support and advocacy for policies
and legislation, which provides equal access and opportunity for low income and first-generation
college and physically challenged students. TRiO Programs help students overcome class, social
and cultural barriers to higher education.

The South Carolina TRiO Alumni Association (SCTAA) Spirit Award was established as a
complementary award to the Wanda Hendricks-Bellamy Student Leadership Conference
Outstanding Young TRiO Alumni Award. This award will be given to several nominees who
embody the spirit and characteristics of a TRiO alumnus. The nominees for this award have
not only shared their spirit and love of TRiO; but they have also shown resilience to
adversity, persevered toward his/ her educational and personal goals, they
personify the attitude of a TRiO alumnus, and serve as inspirations to their peers and others
around them.

Nominators do not have to be members of SC TRiO or SC TRiO Alumni Association; however

the nominee(s) must be alumni of a TRiO program.
