Attaching Mitered Borders

There are several methods to miter borders. This is my favourite.

1: Measure the length and width of your quilt through the center, not the edge of your piece and write
them down.

2: Fold the border pieces in half a mark the center and the beginning and end to correspond with your
measurements.

3: Pin the center of the border to the center of the top as well as the beginning and end.

4: Start stitching 1/4" from the beginning and stop 1/4" from the end.

5: Attach all four borders in the same way.

6: Place the quilt top on the ironing board, face up.

7: Working on one corner at a time, fold the tails of the border strips under at a 45* angle. (Use the lines
on your ruler)

8: Adjust the design so that the print matches at the seam and press. Open and pin through the press
line on both tails.

9: Stitch in the press line. Open and check that it matches and lies flat.

10: Trim off excess.
