Interventions and Assessments:
Reading:
Systematic phonics teaching
Grapheme/phoneme correspondences in a clearly defined, incremental sequence
To apply the highly important skill of blending (synthesizing) phonemes in order, all through
a word to read it
To apply the skills of segmenting words into their constituent phonemes to spell
That blending and segmenting are reversible processes
Writing
Encourage students to write letters, sound patterns (graphemes), words, and sentences to support
and reinforce segmentation strategies and the acquisition of phonics rules.
Math
Multisensory active and interactive integration of visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile
elements of teaching
Self-regulation
Give students time to breathe to refresh their body if feeling overwhelmed
Have students set goals
Visual
Not over visualizing by covering pictures in text and the other sentences below to go line by line
while reading
Auditory
Use speech when reading (audiobooks) to help students connect words to sight
Feedback
Reinforcing that students are smart and showing the positives of what they are doing
