SUMMARY

Three objectives:

Space for vehicle

Visibility for the driver

Time to make decisions

Five steps:

1. Aim high in steering. Involved looking far ahead into the area our vehicle is approaching so we
can leave ourselves enough time to make decisions. Eye lead time: the distance you look ahead,
measured in second. Must be at least 15 second
2. Get the big picture. Take a 360 image around you. See mirror every 5 or 8 second. Minimum
distance for a car in front of you 4 second.
3. Keep your eyes moving. Two types of vision: peripherical (180 gades) around our eyes and
central cone vision 3 degrees in front of you, this keep your big picture. Is the early warning
system. Recommends: Move your eyes every two seconds
4. Leave yourselves an out. Is talking more about space. More space increase good answer for
visibility. If you can find a four space cushion clean, at least get the front and one side clean.
Lane of least resistance: provide the least potential for conflict and the best visibility. Benefits:
improved visibility, an escape route if necessary, reduce vulnerability to the mistakes for others
drivers.
5. Make sure their see you. Eye contact. It is appropriate to obtain eye contact at the earliest
possible time at which conflict may be avoided.
