Preparation for Measurement 41. Mechanical Zero Adjustment With OFF Switeh Button pressed se {0 “0” mark on the AC V scale. To make this zero adjustment open the mircored pane! {and turn the zero adjust screw behind the panel with a screwdriver. The mirrored panel can be lifted up to 90 dogrees by holding both sides as shown, ig.2) 2. How to Connect Test Probe Plug the probe con- Rector into the probe ‘socket as shown in Fig. 3. "EARTH" and LINE" marked on the scale should be aligned with those Indicated onthe probe connector. ye meter pointer Note When removing the probe make sure to pull it by pressing the knob. Since a “stopper” is provided within the probe connector itis necessary to press the knob so that the ‘test probe can be pulled out. 4-2, AC Volage Measuroment Press AC V Function Switch Button 2 Connect Earth lip tlgator ei to one sie of the equipment under test and touch the other side with Line Prog. 8. Take the reading on the AC voltmeter scale (lack) 4-3. DC Voltage Measurement Itis possible to measure DC voltage of the equipment ‘under test by using the AC voltmeter. But the pro- ‘cedures outlined below should be fllowed de to the presence of polarity 4, Connect Earth Clip (alligator clip) to plus (+) side ff the equipment under test and touch minus (—) side with Line Prod. Note There will be no indication when polarity is sed. When polarity is unknown make measurements twice in an opposite way. 2, Take the reading on the AC voltmeter scale Howover, pointer deflection is greater in OC voltage measurement than in AC voltage measure ment. The true voltage value is about 0.45 times the reading on the AC voltmeter. Use the conver slon chart (Fig. 4) 5 Conversion Chart for DC Voltage Fig. 4” haan on A Voge Sea 4-4, Insulation Resistance Measurement 1. Selection of Measuring Range Press a Range Switch Button desired, 2. Check of Mechanical Zero Position With OFF Switch Button pressed make sure that the Pointer is set at o> mark on tho Mi? ecale to be used. It tho pointer is off this position make the mechanical zero adjustment as outlined in section 4-1 Note The scales are colour coded according to each measuring range. The colours of the: scales correspond to those of volt and Mi ranges Indicated on the Range Switch Button as follows: ACV — Black, 1,000V/2,000M0 & 100v/20M0 — Blue, 500V/100M0 — Red, 250/50M11 — Green 9. Battery Voltage Check With REMOTE/BATT. CHECK Switch Button pressed check the reading. When the pointer stays on the Fight side of GOOD mark at the middle of the scale battery voltage is sufficient (LED lights up indicating that the instrument isin operation for MO. measur ment) When the pointer stays on the left side of [GOOT mark replace the batteries. Note As power consumption becomes the largest when REMOTE/BATT. CHECK Switch Button is pressed make the battery voltage ‘check quickly. Power consumption differs with each of the three ranges provided. The batiery check Circults are designed to check the battery voltage on each range. Power consumption is the largest on 500V/100M11 range (Model 3301, 3302), followed by 250V/50MN ‘and 1,000V/2,000M 0. ranges (Mode! 3301) and 250V/50M (2 ‘and 100V/20 Mn ranges (Model 3302) Even when the battery voltage Is insutfi- cient at certain range, the instrument may bbe operated at other ranges where power ‘consumption is less. Check the battery vol- tage on each range so that the batteries ‘can be used most effectively. Battery vol {age has nothing to do with the AC voltage ‘measurement. 4. Operation of Switches The instrument permits Mi measurement by operat- ing a remote control switch provided on the probe. For continuous MO measurement press. "Continuous Use" Button, @ Remote Control Measurement For remote control MA measurement press REMOTE/BATT. CHECK Button and all the function switches will come up. Then, the power supply can be turned on or off by the probe switch, which you will find most convenient for an ordinary measurement need. © Continuous Measurement Press Continuous Use Function Switch Button and the power supply willbe left on whether the probe switch is on or off. This method Is recommended especially where continuous checks are made at various places, Aller measurements keep OFF Switch Button Pressed and the power supply will remain off regard- less of the state of the probe switch. 5. Remote Control Measurement Measurement Method First, connect Earth Clip (alligator clip) to one side of the equipment under test and touch other side with Line Prod. Press the probe switch (LED lights up aps Standard Indicating that the instrument In operation for MI measurement) ead the resistance on the scale for which the range is set Note In accordance with JIS C-1302 plus (+) DC output voltage and minus (—) DC output voltage develope on Earth side and Line ‘side of the instrument respectively ©. Use of Guard Terminal Shown below is an example of the Insulation resis- tance measurement of an electric wire I Line cord is simply connected to the wire conductor and Earth Cord to immersion liquid measurement errors will be introduced as this results in the measurement of the combined resistance of insulation resistance and the surface leakage resistance at the cut end of the electric wire. In order to remove this surface leakage ‘current wind a'guard wire around the cut end of the. ‘conductor and connect it to the Guard terminal of the Insulation resistance tester. Then, the surface leakage current will bypass the indicating meter of the insulation resistance tostor. This wil permit the correct measurement of the insulation resistance of the conductor. et (eo latege Save 8 Mhumination 5-1. How to Use tlumination lMlumination is provided to faciitate work at night or ‘imly it locations. The light goes on when the mir- rored pine! is raised about 30 degrees up to the lock position by holding both sides as shown in Fig. 7. The light will goes off -— — ight will goes off rar | when the mirrored Panel gets out of the lock position by = 10 dogrees. Make sure to close the mirrored panel when itis not in 5-2. Lamp Replacement With the mirrored panel raised up to 90 degrees remove the lamp by turning it counter-clackwise. Use the lamp T1-!4, rated at 12V, SOMA or equivalent. 6. Battery Replacement 1 2 Ralse the mirrored panel by 90 de locks. es Push the “Holder” Pressing the upper ‘section of the bat- tery case toward the panel as shown in Fig. 8 The battery case will “come up. Then, pull out the battory case. Remove the bat- tery hook on the bottom of the battery case, Empty the battery case and install new batterie Eight pieces of SUM-3 battery are used. Install them according to the markings on the battery Fitin the battery hook with polarity in correct pos tion and push back the battery case until it featches the holder. Then, close the mirrored panel at ‘The hanging strap should be attached as shown in Fig. 9. Use the instrument with the hook of the probe ‘case fitted into the hook on the parting section of the hanging strap. -12- 8.
