Stagmaier Lobby Renovation Proposal

When my parents and I arrived at Stagmaier Hall on Move-In day, one of our first impressions of
the building was the 3rd floor lobby. It was a less than positive impression, especially for
students just beginning their college experience. The walls are utilitarian beige cinder block, the
light is not particularly welcoming, and theres only enough seating for four people on hard
chairs. To students who had been told that being in Stagmaier would foster a great sense
community, our community gathering place was a huge disappointment.

Two months later, as my friend and I sat in the lobby, we discussed how much it would be
improved by a few bean bag chairs. We then thought about how much a lamp would brighten up
the room. Soon, we had a plan sketched out to renovate the lobby, with a goal of making a space
that was inviting to students, supported studying, and would be a perk to living in Stagmaier
while still sticking to an extremely small budget. This proposal is the result of those
deliberations. We welcome any questions or concerns and hope that this project will provide an
opportunity for both the students and housing department as we move forward. Thank you for
your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Summary:
Proposal includes the addition of a couch, coffee table, two bean bag chairs, a lamp, a
white board, and a cork board.
Cost is an estimated $285.98, including tax.
All models are based on the 3rd floor of Stagmaier Hall, where the project originated, but
the goal is to provide an opportunity to renovate all four floors as needed.

Floor Plans:

Current Floor Plan Renovated Floor Plan

These floor plans show how we plan to rearrange the room to accommodate the extra furniture in
an efficient way. Weve moved the existing table and chairs to the side to make room for the
couch and coffee table in the lower right-hand corner. In the left hand corner, the two bean bags
are clustered around a floor lamp.

Housing Regulations: As far as housing regulations go, every item in the proposal can be easily
removed without damage to the lobby, and there is still a clear path through the lobby in case of
emergency.

Cost: This renovation plan comes out to a grand total of $285.98, tax included. Using the third
floor as an example, with 37 students, that comes out to approximately $7.73 per student. In
other words, it would cost less to renovate the lobby, and have a nice, comfortable area for
possibly years to come, than it would to buy all of those students a dinner at Crossroads.

That being said, if cost is still a concern, it has been brought to our attention that there may be
supplies we could utilize in surplus, and other areas where spaces are being renovated and old
furniture/supplies are being disposed of.

Concept Art:
Floor to Floor:
This plan was initially created for the third floor of Stagmaier. Because of this, the diagrams all
reflect a room with a table and four chairs. In an effort to provide benefits for the entire building,
weve extended this proposal to include all three floors. This does, however, mean that the plan
would be slightly different. Based on a quick survey of the other floors, these are our preliminary
ideas.
