Once there lived an old widowed woman and her son, named Malin. They lived in a
great suffer and misery far..far.. deep in the jungle.

Mom

Malin, come here son, help me to carry this firewoods.

Malin

Yes mom,wait a

minute

(Malin then helped his mother)

Malin

Mom, Im tired with all of this. How long will it last? I need change.

Mom

I dont know, my son. Just keep the faith, be patient and above all, do not lose hope and pray to God.

Malin

Mom! Ive got an idea! Will you be so kind letting me go away to seek for my fortune? I dont know,
because it seems worth to try.

Mom

I dont know, son. Just let me think about that until were back at the house.

Malin

And then..We can discuss it.

Malin and his mother went back at the house yet his mother keep thinking about the
idea that her son has just brought to her. She didnt say a word until

Mom

Finally, Were home.

 About me going out beyond this jungle to seek for my fortune? Have you decided it?

(He said hopefully)

Mom

About that..Im not sure about it. Therere plenty of things to be thought. Where will you be staying?
Who will take care of you while youre out there without my supervision, and who will be helping me
here in the woods?

Malin

Ive talked to Dayat, Mom. Dayat will be looking after you and helping you while Im not here and
dont you worry about me, Ill be just fine out there. Im a tough guy.

Mom

But Malin.

Malin

I promise, Mom. I swear to God I will seek for my fortune seriously out there. I will not be playing
around and by the time I get back Ill change the situation were living in right now into a much better
one. Dont you worry.

Malins mother couldnt forbid what Malin wanted. So, she finally agreed although
theres a little of uneasy feeling about Malins departure to seek for his fortune. But after all It is
for his own good and her familys good so.

Mom

Alright, I hereby free you to go out there but in one condition, dont you ever forget about your
homeland and stay humble wherever you are. Just be Malin. Dont ever change,

Malin

Thank you, Mother. I will not let you down. Thank you, Mom. Thank you.

Malin went to Dayats house to ask him about the deal that he made with his Mom,
about Dayat watched over Malins mom while hes away. Dayat was Malins bestfriend. They
always be together back then.

Dayat

Hey, whats up, Malin?

Malin

Hello there, my friend. How are you?

Dayat

Im good and cool as a cucumber. What about you,my friend?

Malin
 Hahaha..Im good too. Hey, I need to ask you for a favor. Could you help me with that?

Dayat

Sure, my friend. Just one second, I got to feed the cow first. Step inside. Make yourself at home.

Malin stepped inside Dayats house and frankly it was a nice-looking and well-organized
house although the size of the house itself was a bit smaller than Malins house.

(Dayats finally done with feeding his cow then came to meet Malin at the living room)

Dayat

Speak to me, my friend. What can I help you?

Malin

Ok. I want you to look after my Mom because Im not going to be here for several months ahead.

Dayat

Whoa..whoa..whoa..waitwhaat?

Malin

You heard me. Im not going to be here for several months ahead. And.. Since youre like a brother to
me, Could you please watch over My moms condition and helping with her carrying firewoods?

Dayat

Yeah,sure. But where will you be going? And for how long?

Malin

Out beyond this woods for sure, I dont know maybe far across the land and sea and about how long
will I be awhile, I am not sure yet.

Dayat

But why? You have your life here.

Malin

I know. But, I need change, my friend. I dont want to live like this. Its enough for me. I cant handle
this situation, me and my moms situation.

Dayat

Malin

Malin

Dayat

Well then I am true because your mom has said it and I believe that is true.

Malin

Departure day

On the next day, Malin, her mother and Dayat went to harbor to say their last goodbye to Malin,
to the old sweet, humble and nice, Malin. We dont know what will he be, neither they

Mom

Be careful, son. Just dont be a burden to everyone. Come home real soon!

(Her mom burst in tears with Dayat held her Mom in one hand)

Dayat

Be careful, my friend!

Marlin

I promised to you, Mom. I will come back. Dont you worry. And to you, Dayat, please just watch
over my Mom,ok?

Dayat

You can trust me, my brother. I promise.

Malin

Well then, Id better get going. The ship is waiting for me.

Mom and Dayat

So there he went away, to the land of nowhere with a luxurious ship thats owned by a
famous and rich man. The captain (the rich man) gave him the job as a crew and Malin finally
accepted the job.
 Day by day he spent with joyful and happiness and he didnt realize that there was a
beautiful woman on board that captured his special attention, she was the captains daughter.
Her name was Ningrum but somehow Malins thought was a little bit different, hes up to no
good.

Malin

If I could get her, I will become a well-known person back in the land I once lived in. Marrying her
would be the one and only way to be rich and famous.

And suddenlythe moment came..

Ningrum

Hey, have you seen my dad?

Attracted by her beauty, he couldnt say a word until

Malin

Uh yeah, Im sorry. I think Ive seen him. He went to the kitchen, I guess.

Ningrum

Back in the land, deep in the woods, Malins mom was concerned about Malins
condition out there and she was afraid that maybe he already forgot about her, that he would be
not coming back

Dayat, Its been 2 months since the day he left us.

Back in the ship. The intentions of marrying Ningrum became bigger and bigger but there was
one problem, Ningrums mother disliked the idea about Ningrum befriended with Malin.

Harum (Ningrums Mother)

Dont you dare to step into that crews office again!

What crew? I dont even know what youre talking about.

Harum

Oh! You think I did not know? That Malins crew!

Ningrum

Finally, the wedding day approached as Malin was promoted to be the captain of the ship,
Ningrums father of course, happy about Ningrum and Malins wedding though its not for her mother

Harum

You will regret about this sooner or later.

Ningrum

No, I will not, Mom..

The happy day finally came as Malin grew richer and richer. They were both very happy but not with
Ningrums Mom. They were very romantic couple.

Ningrum

Dont you want to go somewhere, Malin?

 Malin

Yeah, I think we need that. How about Dua Angsa Island?

Ningrum

I think, thats a great idea! How about it, Mom?

Harum

As long as youre happy Im happy, my daughter.

Three months have passed. For Dayat and Malins mom, its been a long and lonely days since
Malin went away until..the news spread out the village, some rich and famous sailor with his wife and his
mothers wife came to visit the island. They wondered who they were

Dayat

Maam! I think, Ive heard that somebodys visiting this island! And I think, it might be Malin!

Mom

Really? Take me to the harbor, Dayat!

They finally arrived at the harbor

Dayat

Ive heard that the man in this ship was all rich and famous, maam.

Mom

I think Malins finally home, Dayat.

Dayat

Mom

Mothers instincts are the best.

And then finally, the man came down form the ship

Malin!!! Its me!! Your mom!!!!

Ningrum, who apparently captured by the moment, watched it awkwardly and strangely, and
said

Ningrum

Who is that poor,sad,old woman?

And malin, who was currently ashamed by that, saying

Nobody. Just some poor, old woman. Maybe she wants my money

Its like a lightning bolt strike right into her heart. She didnt believe that her son just said that

Mom

Malin! How could you,Son?!

Ningrum

Did I just hear that she called you son?

Malin

No! You probably just misheard it. Its impossible! Im a rich and well-known man! While shes just a poor old
woman

Mom

You forgot your promise son!

Her mother grabbed his sons hand

Malin

What promise? Come on, Ningrum! Lets just get out of this place!

Malin finally pushed her mother to the ground and left

Ningrum

Yes, my dear.

Mom

You! How could you do that to your mother?! I cant take this anymore. I curse youinto a stone!

Suddenly theres a big,giant,black cloud coming with a thunder and storm then destroying Malins ship.
Flashing of a lightning stroke Malins body and then..

Malin

What is happening to me? I cant feel my body! Help me!

Malin was petrified, finally he turned into a stone.

Mom

Thats what you get when youre disobeying your mother. How could you,my son?
