Art of Silence

priom o Marsoovom scenskom alter egu pierolikom klovnu Bipu (knjiga
The Story of Bip Marsela Marsoa).
i kontra-maska. Ovim sredstvima bih u praznom prostoru, u snopu svetla
Art of Silence

I apply for my master project with Art of Silence, a monodrama without

words, or mimodrama (as Marceau calls it).
I would like it to be an authors project, without any drama text template, in
which I would explore scenic silence. What does silence carries with it, what
causes it, does it speaks for itself, which associations can it make in audiences
imagination, is it possible not to say a word but still communicate with the
audience using only gesture and the actors body. Marcel Marceau named his
pantomime art of silence, so the title of my master project would be a
Marcels quote. As starting points, I would use few more of Marceaus scenic
quotes, such as The Mask Maker and The Hands, and story of Marceaus
scenic alter ego: Pierot-like clown Bip (The Story of Bip, a book by Marcel
Marceau).
Acting tools that I would use will be: pantomime, use of invisible props, mask
and contra-mask. With these tools, in an empty space, under one beam of light, I
would try to tell a story about human loneliness, alienation, reasons why and
when we are silent, why we clam up so often All of this would be inspired by
life and work of Marcel Marceau, Charlie Chaplin, Jacques Lecoq and other
artists who used silence as their scenic language.
