Waterdepth,cost
Recently,theTLPhashadsuccessincorrectingseveralmisconceptionsregardingtheconcept.AcommonmisconceptionisthatTLPsarelimited
towaterdepthsof3,000ft.Theoverallprojecteconomicsforaparticularfieldwillactuallydependonmanyfactorsinadditiontowaterdepth.
Theseincludetopsidespayload,timetofirstoil,andriskfactorsassociatedwithconceptselection.SeveralexamplesexistinwhichtheTLPhas

alongwithtendonsizingandpreliminarystructuraldesigntoevaluatethedeeperinstallation.Resultsoftheworkwereveryencouraging,
demonstratingthatforthesmallertopsidesfacilities,atechnicallyfeasibletendonsystemcouldbedevelopedevenforasignificantincreasein
waterdepth.
AsecondmisconceptionregardingtheTLPconceptisthatthesystemisexpensive,especiallyforsmallerpayloads.Recentexperiencehowever,
demonstratesthatforagivenfieldsizeandwaterdepth,theTLPcostiscompetitivewithothersystemsforbothlargeandsmallpayloads.Inother
words,aconventionalTLPdesignedforsmallerproductionrequirementsiscompetitiveincostwithotherproductionconcepts.
Schedulecompression

Thesavingsresultedfromanaggressivehulldesignschedulecoupledwithadesignwhilebuildapproach.Asdesignandanalysisprocedures

Structuralteam
Anothertrendwhichhasresultedinsignificantimprovementsinstructuraldesign,withacorrespondingreductionincostandschedule,isthe
integrationofthedesignengineersandfabricatorsintoacommonteam.
OnrecentTLPprojects,severalfabricationyardpersonnelhaveworkedcloselywithengineersanddraftersatthedesignoffice.Thefabricator
