SAD I AMS
Structure, Style and Language
1. Structure
Consists of four stanzas and does not
have a fixed rhyme scheme.

2. Style
Simple and direct.

3. Language
Simple and easy to understand.
Setting
Set in common household
Point of View
First person point of view
The persona talks about himself as
feeling sad when compares himself
to these things found in most
household.
Themes
Things that have no value are disposable
Losing direction within the family and with
friends.
Feeling unloved and loosing confidence.
Maintaining or looking after things we have.
Neglecting ones possessions.
Negativism about life and how one is
treated.
Seeking attention.
Moral Values
We should be positive about our status in life.
We should learn to recognise and value our
abilities and possessions.
We should keep faith with our family and know
that everyone in a family deserves to be loved
equally.
We should have confidence in ourselves.
Materials things are important but spiritual
bonding is even more important.
We should open up and talk about our feelings
especially the feelings of depression.
Tone & Mood
Tone the persona feels sad and
takes a serious view about feeling
lost.
Mood it is disappointing to feel
neglected and unloved, especially
within a family.
Symbol
1. scrapings from unwashed porridge
pan
Symbolic of something left behind and
utterly useless.

2. the Sellotape where you cant find


the end
Symbolic of the feelings of frustration.
Repetition
The words I am repeated to give
emphasis to the personas strong
feelings of sadness.
The words no one is repeated in
lines 5, 7 and 9 in stanza four.
Metaphor
The persona feels he is a piece of
good advice or a good example but
no one seem to need it.
Personafication
1. the carburettor choked by bits of
dirts
Personafies the carburettor being
choked and dying.

2. the toothless stapler


Personafies an old person with no teeth
and so unable to eat
Assonance
unwashed porridge pan
an empty Cola can
Alliteration
that mars instead of mends
the gum is gone
