THE MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT

In 2002, when I was 17 years old I got a good mark to the third grade in middle school, so they
rewarded me with a summer grant to study abroad. This grant was approved every year just
for the best student, and they travelled somewhere in England. However, that year due to
Britain supporting the war in Afghanistan, it was decided to travel to Scotland. As everybody
knows their accent is completely different to English people. I perfectly remember that I
couldn't understand anything, even I couldn't shop because I couldn't understand that the
shop assistant said me. Not to mention the fact that in class I couldn't understand the teacher
and everybody watching me, I felt terribly embarrassed.

As if this were not enough, the last day, an event was organized to collect our school
certificate. I remember perfectly that day, it was a rainy day, like the most of the day there, we
were in a huge assembly hall, it was a cool day and the floor was muddy. Firstly, the best
students were mentioned, of course, I wasn't there, but and the end of the ceremony I was
just mentioned to pick my certificate up. They had remembered me, I felt happy in that
moment, I ran to the stage, so, I couldn't see a little step and I fell down and I stained my
clothes with the mud and everybody saw me and laughed at me. I felt terribly embarrassed, at
that moment I wished the earth would swallow me up.
