Materials and Methods

Cimex lectularius, Amblyomma americanum, and Dermacentor variabilis

Materials
Small coolers (about 11.81 x 8.27 x 10.63 inches each)
Dry ice
1m2 pieces of white cloth
Forceps
Medium sized test tubes
80% ethanol

Methods
To make a dry ice trap:
Install a dry ice trap by taking approximately 3.5 lbs of dry ice and transporting it to the cooler.
Leave the lid open. Then, place underneath the cooler a 1m2 piece of white cloth. The trap
should resemble Figure 1. Leave trap to set overnight. Next morning at 8:00 a.m., collect the
species with a pair of forceps, and place it into a vial of 80% ethanol. Replace the used cloth
with a clean cloth and replace the dry ice, and let the trap set over night again. Repeat this
process for every dry ice trap set up.
