eec ve memanagement.Therstmajorwri ngprojectofEnglish102theProjectProposalwill
giveyouanopportunitytothinkaboutandworkwithinthisimportantgenreofwri ng.

Forthisrstwri ngprojectyouwillwriteaproposalforaresearchproject.Theprojectyouproposewill
beresearched(inWri ngProject2),wri enasapersuasiveessay(inWri ngProject3),andbuiltinto
yourWritersWebsite(inWri ngProject4).Essen ally,thisassignmentasksyoutodothefollowing:

beapproachable(andmoreworkable)atlocallevels.Asyouthinkaboutyourtopic,trytofocus
onsomethingtangibleyoucanresearchandengagewithinyourcommunity,town,orcity.You
willneedtoformulateacentralresearchques onrelatedtotheproblemyouiden fy.This
ques onwillhelpguideyourownthinkingandinquiry.
2. Youmustdescribeyourprojectsexigencyandwhyyourprojectiskairo c;inotherwords,why
shouldyou(andpoten allyothers)researchthispar cularproblematthispar cularpointin
me?Isitakairo coropportune metoaddressthisproblem?Asyouthinkaboutexigencyand
kairos,trytothinkconcretelyabouthowspeciccircumstancesrelatetothespecicproblem

5. Youwillneedtoproposehowyoumightgoaboutresearchingyourproblem.Todothis,youwill

problem,andtalkabouthowyoumightaccessthem.Therearenotnecessarilyrightorwrong
sources;instead,thereareappropriateorinappropriatesources.Yourtaskwillbetodescribe
thesortsofsourcesyouwilluseinyourresearchandwhytheyareappropriategivenyour
problemandyouraccesstothosesources.
6. Youressayneedstoincludeandmeaningfullyintegrateatleastonemul modalelement.You
couldincludepictures,sounds,orevenhyperlinkstootherresources,butyoumustmakesure
thatyourreaderunderstandswhyyouareincludingtheseelementsandwhyincludingthem
enrichesyourpieceofwri ng.Considerwhatmediabeyondtextmightreinforceyourmainidea
toreaders,conveyinanotherwaythesignicanceofyourprojectproposal,and/orappealto
yourreadersfromadierentregister.
7. Yourprojectshouldbe7501000wordsinlength,andbeconsistentlygramma caltoanextent
thatsyntaxdoesnotobscureseman cs(areaderwhoisprocientinEnglishcanreadyour
paperwithoutconfusionduetogramma calissues).
