Multicultural Memories
By John Cooney

ear readers after one year of searching, I am pleased to sign the first editorial of Multi News Ireland. This is a multi cultural and multi lingual newspaper directed to non Irish nationals and Irish citizens, where non nationals account for 10% of our population on total of 4.2 millions. This newspaper will have sixteen pages including advertising our exclusive source of finance. For all the non national communities that this paper does not report on the reason is actually clear cut, simply because we could not enclose every world community in Ireland. Therefore we apologise to the twenty six immigrants from Luxemburg and the same for the 11161 Mr and Mrs Chinese in Ireland and to every other neighbouring countries not included. I wish to extend to a wider range of communities around the world in the future. To whom may stumble upon how I came up with this idea. My answer is “that I was enormously anxious to comprehend more about these new neighbours who came to Ireland after the official entry of the ten new states into the EU in 2004. Thus for that reason I will always have pleasure in accepting positive stories from you as a non Irish national living in Ireland. We thank you Sligo County Enterprise Board for the support of Multi News Ireland during all the project stages.

haith mé coicíos in mBaile An Fheirtéaraigh i gCo Chiarrai i rith an tSamhraidh. Is breá liom an áit sin mar tá na radharcanna go hiontach. Is dóigh liom gurb é CeanSibéal agus an áit sin timpeall sin ar ceann de na háiteanna is fearr sa domhan. Chaith mé lá iomlán amuigh ar an mBlascaod Mór. Níl aon áit eile cosúil leis. Tá an ciúnas go hiontach mar nil ann anois ach na héin agus na coiníní. Ach tá an t-oileán lán de stair. Chuaigh mé ó theach go teach ag smaoineamh ar na daoine a bhí ina gcónai iontu – Peig Sayers, Tomás O Criomhthain, Muiris O Súilleabháin 7rl. Chaith mé tamall ag féachaint ar tigh ‘An Rí’! Chaith John Millington Synge tamall sa tigh seo agus deirtear go bhful Peigin Maic, sa dráma Playboy of the Western Word bunaithe ar inion an Ri! Is iontach an rud é an méid scribhneóireachta a tháinig amach ón Blascaod Mór, áit nach bhfuil crann ar bith ag fás ann. Ach nior chuir na rudai sin isteach ar a samhláiocht in aon chor. Nuair a bhi mé i gCiarrai, bhi scéal sna nuachtáin faoi thuairisc atá ag teacht amach

i gceann tamaill, á rá go bhfuil na Gaeltachta ag fail bháis agus nach mbeidh said ann i gceann fiche bliain nó mar sin. Is fior an rud é go bhfuil athrú ag teacht. Bhí an-diomá orm i gCiarrai nuair a chuala mé na daoine óga ag caint i mbéarla nuair a bhí siad le chéile ag imirt. Ach ag an am céanna, ta níos mó daoine ná riamh ar fud na tire ag foghlaim an teanga agus á labhairt. Ta an teanga chomh breá beo inniú is a bhí si riamh. Tugann TG4 agus Radio Na Gaeltachta an-chabhair do láidreacht an teanga. Mar a deireann an seanfhocal, tír gan teanga, tír gan anam. Ba chóir dúinn go léir an teanga a chaomhnú. (Tim Ryan spent a fortnight in the Kerry Gaeltacht of Ballyferriter during the summer where again noted the wealth of Irish writing that came from the Blasket Islands. He was saddened to hear so many young people there speaking English and news of a report which will spell the end of the Gaeltacht areas in 20 years. However, he concludes that the new interest generally in the Irish language and the support given by Radio Na Gaeltachta and TG4 will ensure its survival).

hen walking down Dublin’s O’Connell Street today I encounter Poles, Romanians, Lithuanians, Chinese, Nigerians and people from all parts of the globe, I sigh to myself that I was once like you – a new immigrant. Indeed, when I arrived from Glasgow exactly thirty-five years ago, in autumn 1972, I felt like an Algerian coming to Paris. A Catholic, born in Presbyterian Scotland with Irish-born grandparents, I was familiar with the deeply-rooted Catholicism of my adopted Eire, the powerhouse of a spiritual empire. Yet, its overwhelming hold on the ethos of the Ireland then came as a shock to one accustomed to a more secular-minded Scotland. I still vividly remember my first impressions of arriving by boat at Dun Laoghaire. The thrill of driving into Dublin on a hired van with all my worldly goods, mainly books. Finding storage to dump these possessions until I found accommodation. The sense of being totally alone on a Saturday night in a foreign city

when my friend Bill Heaney departed from Dublin port returning the van to Scotland. That Sunday I awoke in a hotel to face the reality that I was now living in a strange capital city: map in hand, finding my way around by bus, train, sometimes by taxi and often on foot; adjusting to Irish accents, as I tried to make my Scottish tongue pronounce intelligible English; the search for rented accommodation, starting work and saving up to buy a car and then my own house on Dublin’s northside. Soon I made friends and no longer felt an outsider. But from time to time, I would be told “to go back to the Gorbals – a working class slum in Glasgow – where you belong.” I now belong to multicultural Dublin. But I still feel both Scottish and Irish. John Cooney is Religion Correspondent and political specialist with the Irish Independent.

News Real estate gold rush Lietuviai rado nauja; aukso gysla; for Lithuanians Amerikoje. in USA
LT By Justas Vaitonis žemę pirko per internetą. JAV bankams atitekusį nekilnojamąjį turtą, už kurį nesugebėjo paskolos išsimokėti savininkai, pardavinėja šios šalies nekilnojamojo turto kompanija „Life plius Investments“. Be to, jos gerokai aukštensės negu JAV.

as vieniems blogai, kitiems – paranku ir net labai pelningą.

S real estate and stock market crisis sparked an investment idea to some brainy and wealthy Lithuanians, who started buying extremely cheap houses, hotels or even islands in America. Compared to Lithuanian market, US houses come twice or three times cheaper, but

everybody understand that this situation would not last. This is why real estate traders, who do not plan to go to USA and not even have visa, browse on the web every day in search of good deals and buy houses without hesitation. For example, one Lithuanian recently purchased two storey 4 bedroom house in Detroit

for as little as 19.000 USD, another is happy about more serious investment – land lot on the island off California shores. He paid USD 1.2 million for the estate – the sum, which would not be able to grant him anything even close to bounty in America.

Ново увеличение на цените в страната се очаква след като преди дни “Булгаргаз” настоя за повишение на прородния газ с 11% от 1 октомври. ear-on-year inflation at the end of the month rose to 12% from 8,4% the previous month preliminary data from the country’s National Statistics Institute showed. Cumulative inflation for the first eight months of the year was 6,3%. Consumer prices in Bulgaria rose by 3,1% in August, following a sharp increase in food prices, preliminary data from the country’s National

Statistics Institute showed on Wednesday. Food prices rose by 7,3% for the month after an extended drought and the negative outlook for this year’s harvest. Prices in the services sector grew by 0,3%, while non-food prices remained flat compared to July. The Socialist-led government targeted an inflation of 4,4% for the year, edging closer to meeting the requirements to adopt the euro by 2010.

But utility price hikes and the strong increase of food prices in July, when the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 2,2%, have dashed those hopes. In May, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecast end-year inflation to reach 4,5%, while the European Commission estimated the CPI to rise by 4,2%.

Government is thinking how to motivate its people to return back to Latvia
t the end of August Ministry of Special Assignments for Society Integration Affairs submitted informative report to the government which provides particular steps to be done in the nearest future in order to facilitate Latvians to return back to the country after mass emigration during the last few years, mostly because of the economical reasons. The work for the preparation of the report was started several months ago in order to gather the information about the problems which are the reason why Latvians leave the country and go abroad to search for a better life. A significant work was invested to gather ideas and formulate recommendations to create an attractive state image which could motivate Latvians to return back to their country. Ministry founded a Work group where several experts from state, private and non-governmental sector were working together, meanwhile organizing also several discussion groups where opinion about the current problems and suggested actions were discussed between entrepreneurs and representatives of the state institutions, migration experts and people who are currently planning to leave Latvia or already have emigrated from the country for economical reasons. Oskars Kastens, Minister of Special Assignments for Society Integration Affairs, commenting on report, has underlined that all the mentioned recommendations can be implemented in real life and could encourage Latvians not only to return back to Latvia but could also create stable conditions in the state and prevent Latvians from making a decision to leave their country. As one of the essential steps in this direction could be assignation of a double citizenship to the children who are born abroad to Latvian citizens. Minister consider this to be a fundamental aspect which could strengthen the links with homeland, stimulate Latvians living abroad to take more active part in the ongoing processes in Latvia and would motivate Latvians to make a decision to return back. In the report Ministry has underlined that for a successful solutions to the current emigration problem a systematic approach is needed, besides an active steps must be taken simultaneously in several directions, providing a continuous monitoring to the emigration and comeback, providing preventive measures for mass emigration, as well to ease return process and re-integration in homeland. One of the main points mentioned in the report is improvement of working conditions and welfare through the perfection of the relationship between employers and employees, especially regarding contracts of employment and taxes. Ministry has underlined also strengthening of the public and private cooperation, giving a certain support to new business initiatives. As much important is also motivating steps towards Latvians living abroad securing wide information links about labor market and opportunities in Latvia, facilitation of politically active community, educating and formation of a tolerant

and open-minded society who understands idea of free movement of the people and other similar activities.Ministry has mentioned also several critical reasons why Latvians want to leave the country. As one of the main problems is listed carelessness from the state and employer’s side towards employees and their needs. Bureaucratical obstacles are mentioned as a nuisance especially in the field of business affecting successful work of the small and medium size enterprises besides poor salaries are also a serious reason why families make a decision to leave the country because they can`t satisfy needs of a family.

Man šis reikalavimas pasirodė absurdiškas.

Putin nominates new prime minister to sound out his political future
Vladimir Putin made a jawdropping decision last week when he dismissed Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov and nominated the head of the Russian Financial Monitoring, Viktor Zubkov, for the vacant position. With this decision Putin managed to confuse observers and deviate from the answer to the question of his successor. To put it in a nutshell, Putin has preserved the freedom of political maneuvering, mass media say in their reports regarding the unexpected dismissal of the long-time PM Fradkov. Viktor Zubkov’s has a trump card to become a popular politician and a successor to Putin’s office in 2008. It goes about Zubkov’s anti-corruption activities. The new appointment equals the chances of all possible presidential nominees, although it adds the new person in their circle. Technically, Viktor Zubkov has all chances to become the next president of Russia, similarly to the chances he had to win the office of the head of the Cabinet. Putin will announce his successor at the end of the current year, sources say. Anti-corruption activities can bring success to any presidential candidate. They could be compared to the Chechen issue, which made Vladimir Putin extremely popular in Russia on Viktor Zubkov, for the vacant position. Renata, who lives in Cork with her boyfriend Kestas recently returned to Lithuania with 8 year old daughter and son

Dell, other global IT companies boosting presence in Poland
ome of the world’s top hightech companies are boosting their presence in Poland in ways that could trigger a consolidation of the domestic information technology sector. While IT sales growth in Poland clipped along at 10% per annum in 2004 and 2005, it accelerated to nearly 20% in 2006 – about triple the average IT growth

rate in western Europe. Google, the world’s most popular search engine, last year chose Krakow as the location for its Central European development center. And on the hardware side, Dell Inc. is completing its first factory in the region in Lodz, with expected investment of about €200m ($250m) creating 5,000 jobs over five years. Indirect investment by Dell suppliers

will contribute another €53m. Dell already employs 400 Poles at its manufacturing facility in Limerick, some of whom are coming home. Analysts predict Dell’s presence could trigger a shake-out of the highly segmented computer assembly sector, currently comprising hundreds of small firms that are ripe for consolidation.

Bulgarian power traders seek EC intervention

he Association of Electricity Traders in Bulgaria said it will alert the European Commission and the domestic anti-trust authority about some irregularities on the local power market. The Bulgarian power market was liberalised on January 1, 2007. As it turns out, NEK, the national power grid utility that is also licensed to operate as an electricity trader, has swooped in and

purchased the entire annual power quota allocated for the deregulated segment, leaving the other traders emptyhanded. According to market players, NEK buys the electricity from the producers at 70 levs/MWh and resells it at 70 euro. The other power traders offer prices between 60 and 63 levs/MWh. The European association of power traders has sent a letter to the Bulgarian

energy minister and power regulator, pointing out that the perpetuation of the NEK monopoly contravenes the relevant EU directives.

Ārzemniekiem liela intere- Foreign investors show growse par nekustamo īpašu- ing interest about property market in the Baltic States mu Baltijā

here has been noticed a growing interest about the property market in the Baltic states which is mainly because more and more international investors are showing interest, especially in office and retail premises in the three Baltic capitals. “Newsec Nordic 2007”, which offers services to property investors and property owners, in its newly published report

about retail market situation in Scandinavia and Baltic states, has underlined that the Baltic property market is continuing to rise but the countries’ postponed entries into the European Monetary Union (EMU), is a degree of saturation in the residential market and higher interest rates are cooling the market a little.

The Latvian economy continues to show high economic growth and remains one of the fastest-growing economies in the European Union (EU). The growth is so strong that overheating is a clear risk which has led also to a high inflation, keeping Latvia from meeting the convergence criterion for joining the EMU. The government has taken steps to take control of the inflation but it will take time to stabilize the booming economy, so Latvia’s adoption of the euro is now expected to be further delayed until 2012. The fast economic upswing and the migration of a large part of the workforce to other EU markets have triggered local labor reserves. The supply of labor is expected to be exhausted in a few years’ time. Since Latvia joined the EU, prices have increased, moving towards the EU average. The high inflation is largely caused by rising energy costs, housing costs and food prices. The largest investors in Latvia are Germany, Sweden and Denmark, but Latvia’s trade relationships have shifted westward. In the second quarter of 2006, almost 80% of Latvia’s exports went to EU countries

and close to 75% of imports came from the EU. The Latvian capital Riga is the largest city in the Baltic region and together with Vilnius in Lithuania has the highest rent levels. The report shows that the situation in all the Baltic States – Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, after all is very similar. Thanks to the unremitting interest from foreign investors in the retail and office properties, also transactions with the real estate keep growing. Experts have admitted that lately profitability has diminished in this field but foreign investments definitely influence dynamic of the real estate prices and this tendency clearly is visible in capital of Latvia – Riga and areas close to it. Riga strategically is located in the middle of the all Baltic States, here live significant part of the population and here is concentrated also around 70% of all financial resources of the country. Experts says this combination is one of the main reasons why Riga`s property market is so attractive to foreign investors.

Do dziś niewyjaśniona afera z Andrzejem Lepperem w roli głównej rozbiła koalicję rządową, pozostawiając rząd bez poparcia większości w sejmie.

Early Elections May Take Poles Nowhere

wo years after constant battle between the ruling party Law & Justice (PiS) and the opposition, led by the Civic Platfrom (PO), Poles will cast their votes again on October 21. The lawmakers decided to dissolve the parliamentary assembly following the collapse of the ruling coalition amid the corruption scandals, which left the government without majority support. Still, the opinion polls don’t leave a room for hope that anything will change for a better after the early elections.

allina is the largest town in County Mayo and the third largest in the province of Connaught, after Galway and Sligo. The town had a population of 10,056 in the 2006 census but is growing continuously with the migration of people from Eastern Europe. In the context of the West of Ireland, Ballina is a focal point for the North Mayo-West Sligo area known as the Moy Valley with a catchment population in excess of 40,000 people and is a busy industrial and commercial centre on the estuary of the River Moy. Situated along the banks of the world famous River Moy, with the impressive St. Muredach‘s Cathedral standing imposingly on its banks, near the breathtaking Atlantic coast, Ballina boasts world class angling. The River Moy is internationally acknowledged as an exceptional salmon fishery, produces thousands of salmon to the rod annually. The famous Ridge Pool, the salmon angler‘s paradise, is located in the heart of the town. It draws hundreds

of visitors annually. Indeed, a regular visitor to the Pool is the former Republic of Ireland soccer manager, Jack Charlton, who has a holiday home nearby. There are also excellent sea and lake waters within easy reach. Lough Conn, spanning 15 square miles holds an estimated 1 million trout and the vast expanse of Killala Bay has over 30 species of fish. Ballina is a region overflowing with outdoor activities. Awaiting the visitor are a variety of outdoor ventures, water sports, athletics, cycling, pony trekking, pitch & putt, archery, walking tours. You can even go surfing in nearby Easkey. You can relax in the peace and tranquility of the clean and unspoiled beaches of nearby Enniscrone, Ross or Lacken or play golf in Ballina‘s own 18 hole

course or the Championship Links Course at Enniscrone. Also worth a visit is Belleek Woods. Originally part of the Knox Gore estate, it is now a peaceful haven of 6 miles of natural forest pathways, two of which run along the banks of the Moy. It is one of the largest urban forests comprising 200 acres of woodlands with trees up to 300 hundred years old. Each year in July, Ballina ignites into a frenzy of activity with its annual Street Festival. Over the years it has developed into one of Ireland‘s major festivals, providing a week long feast of free entertainment for the entire family - music, song, theatre, art, heritage, culture, novelty events and finishing with a Mardi Gras parade and massive firework display. Foreign visitors view and experience what is best

about Ballina during this spectacular week. The Newman Institute on Barrett Street, holds Art Exhibitions by different artists and groups of artists each month. It is also the venue for Ballina Film Club and numerous other arts events. This building will soon be redeveloped into a Centre for the Arts and will contain exhibition areas, an auditorium, practice rooms, art studios and a coffee shop. The new library on Pearse Street also hosts events. The Humbert Summer School takes place in August each year attracting visitors from around the world and, of course, Ballina is the home of past President of Ireland, Mary Robinson. Streets packed with a rich variety of shops, award winning pubs, superb restaurants, nightclubs and with access to a variety of excellent sports and leisure amenities make Ballina a vibrant energetic town and a great place to work and live.

To dzirdēdams, vecītis, neko nesacīdams, pagriezās un pazuda. Jaunākais dēls iebāza roku kabatā un izvilka ābolu, pasniegdams to ķēniņam, kurš nespēja valdīt prieku. Atdevis ābolu jaunākajam dēlam, ķēniņš aicināja iet pie meitas. Iegājis meitas istabā, jaunākais dēls to iedeva slimajai skaistulei, kura to ieraudzījusi tūlīt kļuva vesela.

Golden Apple
Latvian fairy tale Once upon a time there lived a king and he had a very beautiful daughter but one day she got very ill. The king invited to his castle the best doctors even from very distant countries but no one could help to heal his daughter. One of the doctors finally said that there is left just one last possibility – there exist an apple tree in the world and it has golden apples. Only a golden apple can help to heal beautiful princess. The king sent out a message and said that the one, who will come to his castle, present a golden apple and heal his daughter, will be allowed to marry his daughter. In the kingdom lived a man who had three sons. One day, when a man when out in his garden he saw a beautiful apple tree in the middle of the garden and it had golden apples. A man remembered about the king`s message, picked apples and gave one to each of the sons and said: “Go to the king`s castle and try your luck!” First went the oldest son. He took also a piece of bread with him, as the way was long and he needed something for the lunch. The oldest son went all day, and

while walking through the forest, decided to have a break and eat his piece of bread. When he started to eat, an old man suddenly arrived and asked him for a piece of the bread because he was hungry. The oldest son looked at him and said: “Go and find a work, old man, and earn for living by yourself!” The old man didn`t say anything, just turned around and went away. Next day the oldest son arrived in the castle and went to see the king. The king asked him to show the golden apple but when he wanted to take it out from his pocket, the apple was turned into a snake. The king was very angry about such spoof and ordered to fling the oldest son in the prison. Then it was the turn for the middle son to go to the castle but his destiny was the same as for the oldest son. Then the youngest son went to the castle. He also took a piece of bread with him for the lunch and when he was in the forest he decided to have a meal. He started to eat his piece of bread when the same old man arrived, told he was hungry and asked for

a crust of the bread. The youngest son looked at the old man, smiled and gave him all his bread and said: “Take it all, old man, I have had enough already and you need more!” The old man was very thankful for this kindness and said to the youngest son: “Be good to others also in future because then good things will happen to you!” The old man turned around and went away. Next day, the youngest son arrived to the castle. The king looked at him and asked for the golden apple. Huge was his surprise when the youngest son took the golden apple out of his pocket and gave to the king. The king invited the youngest son to go and see the ill princess. The oldest son showed her the golden apple and she immediately felt much better and became healthy again. The king organized the most beautiful wedding for both and after the wedding the couple lived a long and wonderful life together.

KILLALA PRECISION Precision Turned Components
Killala Precision Components, which was established in 1981 by Sean Hannick, is located on the outskirts of the town of Killala in Co. Mayo. This Atlantic town it could be argued is as far away as you can get in Ireland from many of the main European markets. But as Sean Hannick explains, it is all a matter of how you view things. I think that one of our biggest problems is negativity. If you turn the map around the other way and look at it you see that you have 250 million of a market in the US and 400 million plus of a market in Canada and you have the whole of Europe. If you look at the location of some countries, which have succeeded, such as Japan they are out on a limb. Killala Precision Components employs 40 people and makes turned components and special fasteners on a sub-contract basis for OEM’s. Their markets cover the whole of Ireland, UK, Europe and the USA. The company’s turnover is in excess of 3.2m. There is no doubt about it but reliability and price is the most important in business nowadays.

How it all started

Sean Hannick

Sean was involved early on in community development work; an experience, which helped consolidate his belief that if you believe you can do something, it, can be done. In the late seventies Sean had an informal meeting with the purchasing manager of Asahi to find out what the company were importing and to see if it could be made locally. One of the things we came up with was stainless steel components and we started to investigate the whole area and found

that it was a bigger market than we initially thought. I had no experience in the area and I didn’t know a nut from a bolt. But the Irish Goods Council introduced us to a technical person and I learned the hard way. At the beginning we made all the mistakes humanly possible. We dug a big hole for ourselves early on in the business and that was probably because I didn’t know the business. I thought because I had a business background I was okay. But this was a different

business one where you could go out of business even if you were doing well says Sean. By 1981 the company was up and running and in 1982 they received some help from the Enterprise Ireland and Mayo County Enterprise Board. In the early days the business was run from a store at the back of s supermarket owned by Sean. The company has since moved twice and now occupies a 20,000 sq. ft. factory, employs over 40 people and exports products all over the world.

On live Interview with Alexander Kapecki:
Why did you choose to move to Ballina? Before I arrived at Ballina, my daughter emigrated from Poland to Ireland. I wanted to stay in contact with her. She told me that Ireland was a very nice country. Right now I live alone in my accommodation. When I arrived here I was looking for a job. I was a Sale manager in Poland in meat production. It was a difficult job and I had very strong pressure and responsibility. In Poland, how much money did you earn a month? As a sale manager I was earning € 400 per month. What do you miss from your country? I miss my house, my relations and I have two sisters which I have very strong contact with. What do you like about Ireland? I was very alert. I saw that everybody was very friendly and open. They helped me and we had very little problems. The people are very well organised. FAS were very helpful and I found it

easy to get a PPS number. Do you miss reading Polish newspapers? Yes, sometimes. Daily newspapers arrive a few days later in Ireland. Do you have any objections to multi-cultural newspapers? No not at all. When you meet some Irish people, what is the most common question they ask? Mostly about my previous life and economical situation Some people ask me about my relations and what I like about Ireland. My colleagues sometimes invite me to go fishing and we also go for a drink in a pub at the weekends. I often think that when people have a couple of drinks it is easier to socialise. Do you think you will stay in Ireland long-term? I would like to work here until I get my pension. I might even stay here forever depending on how things go. Do you think people will ever go back to live in Poland? A lot depends on the next new government.

wlasnie Balina na swoje miejsce pobytu? Dlaczego własnie to miasto, a nie np. Galway? To długa i skomplikowana historia.

6) A poza pracą, dlaczego tu jestes?

Culture Dzieje polskiej demokracji

W 1791 roku uchwalono tzw. Konstytucję 3 maja, uważaną za pierwszą klasyczną ustawę zasadniczą w Europie. Na nowo układała ona relacje pomiędzy szlachtą, Senatem i Królem.

Niestety nie funkcjonowała długo – cztery lata później ościenne mocarstwa dokonały ostatecznego rozbioru Polski. Trudno jednoznacznie ocenić polski parlamentaryzm pomiędzy

powers. Of course it wasn’t a democracy in the current meaning of the word, since most of the country’s inhabitants didn’t have any civil rights. Those belonged to the nobility, however it is crucial to remember that this status was shared by about 10% of the entire population. It was an incredibly high percentage of people entitled to a right to vote and certain civil liberties, as compared to other European countries. A similar percentage of citizens with an unrestricted right to vote was achieved in England only after the so-called Grey reforms of 1832, and in France during the so-called July Monarchy (1830-1842). The Koszyce Privileges, issued in 1374, were an important milestone for the development of the Polish parliamentary system. They granted the nobility an assurance that the monarch won’t make any decisions regarding their status without first consulting them. The first ones to develop were the local representative bodies (the so-called land sejmik), in which all the nobles from a given region were entitled to participate. There, representatives were chosen, who were granted the mandate to speak for the region during the national convention (the so-called Sejm). At the end of the 15th century, the system began to crystallize. Sejm became a regular Representative Body, attended by democratically elected representatives of the nobility. Soon, the Polish parliamentary system was established with the Sejm, along with the Monarch, and the Senate - which evolved from the Royal Council - as its foundations. This parliamentary system functioned until the end of the 18th century. In 1791, the so-called 3rd May Constitution was adopted, which is considered to be the first classical European constitution. It re-defined the relations between the nobility, the Senate, and the King. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long - four years later, the neighboring Powers performed the final partition of Poland. It is difficult to unambiguously assess the Polish parliamentary system between the 15th, and 18th century. On one hand, by historical standards, it made Poland undoubtedly one of the most democratic countries in Europe. On the other hand, some claim that the Polish Sejm’s lack of efficiency, the Monarch’s powerlessness, and the nobility’s preoccupation with its own interests were the main causes leading towards Poland’s gradual decline in the 18th century. However, an attempt to determine whether that is true and properly assess the role of other factors would require a separate analysis.

XV, a XVIII stuleciem.

that period, most other nations noted an increase of authoritarian tendencies. Prussia evolved towards the strengthening of ducal or royal power, and until the revolution at the end of the 18th century, France was under fully absolutist rule (exemplified by the famous words of Louis XIV “L’etat, c’est moi”), while Russia, or the Ottoman Empire serve as an example of pure despotism. Only the power of, say, the English king was systematically weakening, while a complex national structure served to undermine the authority of the Austrian Emperor. Meanwhile, Poland was gradually developing the separation of

The wonderful world of „i Pinco Pallino“
miniature light box with the colors of icecreams, like old carillons that reminds us of a childish, fairy world. The Murano glass luminaire is made of pink and blue crystal. The hearts, moons and stars of the hangings have been reduced by the magic touch of a fairy. The hanging clothes are small, romantic, delicate; they seem perfect for dolls, not only for babies. The new swinging crib, the “culla per sognare”, in tender colors and in gold and silver leaf, welcomes you, like a hug, in the new light box of Via Borgospesso, in Milan. Imelde and Stefano Cavalleri have shared their life and work for 25 years, joining forces to create a fashion full of love for children: the fashion company “I PINCO PALLINO” was founded in 1980. Its network of stores today includes 28 flagship stores in Milan, Rome, Paris, Berlin, Zurich, Moscow, Tokyo, Osaka, Taipei, Hong Kong, Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait. The I PINCO PALLINO garments are also distributed in more than 400 selected multi brand stores in the world, and in the most important department stores (Harrods, Le Bon Marché, Takashimaya, Isetan, Mitsukoshi, Sogo). They live in San Paolo d’Argon, a small Italian town in the province of Bergamo, where they escape from the bustling and stressful city life and are thus able to better concentrate on their creations. Imelde and Stefano work every day in a factory the top of which is decorated with the words from a fairy tale. It is

the story of a blue-eyed little boy and a red-headed little boy, both convinced that each of their own colours is the very best until they meet a little girl with blue eyes and red hair who teaches them the magic of the colour green. Indeed, when we gaze outside the factory’s portholes that look like a picture, we catch a glimpse of the green of the grapevines and a river flowing right next to the factory, making the panorama harmonious and peaceful. A bright and spacious show room on the ground floor. Up against the walls are the bookcases from the old Ambrosian Library of Milan that Stefano and Imelde fell in love with and bought even before the factory was built. Precious books covering a wide variety of subjects, including the history of costume, monographs by a variety of designers, art and ethnic books, and books about jewellery, fabrics and furnishings, have found a loving home inside these high spaces. A part of the bookshelves is overflowing with the collections that Stefano loves so much - teddy bears and shoes. There are various furnishing components in the exquisitely modern showroom and office above that they brought home from their many travels around the world. Foutons brought from China, Indian furniture, and lacquered and decorated boxes create an exotic ambience. Upstairs, where their actual office is located, we find enormous windows overlooking the hills and small waterfalls created by the river. The musical sound of the water comes through the open

windows, and it is highly conducive to the creativity of these two artists. The many Vogue Bambini magazine covers dedicated to I PINCO PALLINO over the past twenty years, with photographs by Calliope, Bruce Weber and other great artists, hang on the walls. The entire factory is lined with very spacious rooms. The daylight filters in through the portholes, roof shades and large windows, making the surrounding greenery a leading protagonist.

Berlino, Zurigo, Mosca, Tokyo, Osaka, Taipei, Hong Kong, Doubai, Bahrain, Kuwait.

Sligo County Enterprise Board has taken the brave step of providing a Bi-Lingual training course for Foreign Nationals who wish to open their own business in Ireland. The program is delivered in Russian and English, as the Russian language is understood by most Eastern European nationalities as a working language for dealing with the former Soviet Union. There are two tutors, Brian Dolan of Progressive Business Development, and Anna Rooney (Nee Kirichenko) of Culture Link Integration and Training. Anna is Russian born, and with an accounting and business background, is promoting cultural Integration through education and training. This Start your own business course is a unique blend of translation on demand, both into another language, and also into English that is familiar to the non-native speaker. The course runs longer than standard, proceeding through the content at a pace that allows learning to take place, promoting confidence through understanding the requirements demanded of the Business owner in Ireland today. The course takes a practical approach to business start-up, working with the participants to progress a sound business idea from conception to reality. Each person who completes this training course can quickly and confidently describe their business idea, and has devised a business plan with the assistance of the tutors. This is a working document that presents the business idea in an easily understood form to gain support from a lending institution or County Enterprise Board.

Stadion Dziesięciolecia -- miejsce harakiri dla Pani Minister.

PL By franciszek Kerut

Moto Mondiale Vince Valentino Rossi ! V

Crushing one-two at Spa assures ferrari of title
Kimi Raikkonen headed home Ferrari team mate Felipe Massa in Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix with a dominant performance that assured the Italian squad of the 2007 constructors’ title. Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton were third and fourth for McLaren, but this time the silver arrows were no match for the red cars. The result enabled Alonso to close in again on Hamilton’s series lead; the Englishman has 97 points to the Spaniard’s 95, with Raikkonen now on 84 and Massa 77. Nick Heidfeld claimed fifth place after his usual tidy race for BMW Sauber, recovering from running wide in the first corner at the start avoiding Alonso and Hamilton, who were involved in their own fight which saw the Spaniard push his team mate wide on the exit to the hairpin and then slam the door on him up the hill through Eau Rouge. Nico Rosberg had another good afternoon for Williams with sixth place, ahead of Mark Webber’s on-form Red Bull, and the best battle of the race saw Heikki Kovalainen take the final point for Renault after holding off the BMW Sauber of a determined Robert Kubica by half a second. Toyota took 10th and 11th with Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli, neither able to sustain their qualifying form. Tonio Liuzzi had his best result of the season with 12th for Toro Rosso, ahead of Rubens Barrichello’s Honda, Adrian Sutil’s well-driven Spyker, the ill-handling Super Aguris of Takuma Sato and

Anthony Davidson, and Sakon Yamamoto’s Spyker. Honda’s Jenson Button retired with hydraulic problems after 37 laps, when just staying ahead of Liuzzi; Alex Wurz retired with poor fuel pressure after a spin in Turn 18; David Coulthard’s Red Bull lost its power-steering after a hydraulics failure; Sebastian Vettel was being shown the way by Liuzzi when his Toro Rosso stopped wanting to turn right; and Giancarlo Fisichella retired with damaged suspension on his Renault after brushing the barriers at Turn Five on the opening lap. Fisichella had opted to start from the pit lane after his post-qualifying engine change dropped him to the back of the grid.
